This lodge sits high on a 250-acre wooded hillside at Loch Rannoch Highland Club, looking out over one of Scotland's loveliest lochs towards the Munro of Schiehallion. It sleeps up to six, so there's room for two families or a group of friends, and dogs are welcome too. A private timber-clad sauna makes it an easy choice in any weather.
Enter on the upper floor, where there's space to hang coats and a cloakroom close by. A step up leads to the hallway and an open-plan room with a kitchen and dining suite at one end and a lounge with a TV and a choice of seating at the other. A pull-down double bed folds out here for two extra guests. Sliding doors fill the front wall, opening into a furnished conservatory with views across the loch and hills. A flight of stairs runs down to the lower floor, where two bedrooms have zip-and-link beds that can be made up as doubles or twins; the master has an en-suite bathroom with a shower over the bath. Across the landing, a separate shower room with WC sits beside the sauna. Outside, there is ample on-site parking on a first-come, first-served basis, with shared laundry facilities elsewhere on-site.
The pub and village shop at Kinloch Rannoch are 500 metres away, and the loch shore below the site is the base for water sports, with walking and cycling routes heading into Tay Forest Park, giving dogs miles of open ground to cover. Wildlife watchers can look for red squirrels, pine marten, otters, golden eagles and red deer. The Falls of Bruar are 15.5 miles east, and Blair Atholl, at the southern edge of the Cairngorms National Park, is 18 miles away. The nearest beach is 14 miles away. From Rannoch Station, 16 miles west, the West Highland Line carries you through to Mallaig.
