Families and couples with an eye for wildlife will find plenty of it at this pet-friendly lodge above the shores of Loch Rannoch, in the Scottish Highlands. Sitting just outside the village of Kinloch Rannoch, it faces the water and a striking mountain backdrop, with hills and native pine forests behind that draw red deer and pine martens. Red squirrels are known to dart across the grounds, and clear nights bring a spectacular display of stars. Sleeping four in two bedrooms, with room for two more on a sofa bed in the lounge, it makes a comfortable base for a Highland break with the dog in tow.
Warm tones and soft lighting run through the open-plan living space, where a neat kitchen sits alongside a dining table for six people and a seating area with a Smart TV and a games table. Patio doors open into a bright conservatory, a lovely spot to sit and take in the view across the loch. Two double bedrooms each have zip-and-link beds that can be made up as twins on request, and the master has an en-suite bathroom with a shower over the bath and WC. A family bathroom also has a shower over the bath and WC, while a double sofa bed in the lounge area sleeps two additional guests. The lodge itself has no private outdoor space. Parking is in the site car park on a first-come, first-served basis.
The village of Kinloch Rannoch lies just beyond the site, a short drive away for everyday amenities. Scenic hillside paths begin close at hand, while the loch draws anglers and water sports enthusiasts through the season. Fishing, clay pigeon shooting, and white-water rafting can all be arranged nearby, and the surrounding forestry is prime ground for spotting otters and red deer. Rannoch Station, 16 miles away, is the boarding point for a memorable ride along the West Highland Line.
