Dog-friendly accommodation & places to stay in Derbyshire
Rural countryside, market towns and the UK’s most central city
Encompassing much of the Peak District, the valleys and gorges in the north west of Derbyshire give way to more undulating hills and rolling pastures. The picturesque River Wye converges with the River Derwent near the National Park’s border, leaving it to meander through the remainder of the county, its scenic qualities an appeal to many holidaymakers in the area.
Home to plenty of canals, country parks and, of course, the Peak District, there’s a plethora of walks for you and your canine companion to embark on while staying at our dog-friendly accommodation in Derbyshire. For a flat, relaxed stroll, try Carsington Water. Cromford Canal is also ideal; a gentle walk along pathways with benches dotted along the route, it’s a lovely tranquil trail. If you like to let your dog roam free, Poppy Wood is a fenced woodland walk that still enjoys wonderful views of the surrounding countryside, or Chaddesden Park where happy hounds can splash to their heart’s content in the stream and play in the open meadows.
For a longer hike, the Peak District has a selection of routes to take. The Monsal Trail follows a former railway line, and a walk around Bamford and its moor gives a new perspective on the Hope Valley region, whilst the historical village of Eyam is a more strenuous hike across harsher terrain, but well worth it when you and your pooch can relax in one of the dog-friendly cafés at the end.
The idyllic towns of Ashbourne, Bakewell, Castleton, Buxton, Hartington and Matlock are all picturesque and feature cosy pubs, historic buildings and independent shops, whilst the market town of Chesterfield has more mainstream shopping facilities and the eye-catching ‘Crooked Spire’. For a full day of retail therapy and exploration on your dog-friendly holiday in Derbyshire, the city of Derby is situated on the banks of the River Derwent enjoying glorious views, packed with culture and an abundance of high street stores and restaurants.
There’s such a mixture of walks and wonderment in Derbyshire; we have a selection of dog-friendly cottages in Derbyshire for you and your pooch, now all you need to do is choose the pawfect pet-friendly places to stay.
