Pet-friendly cottages & accommodation in Buxton
A great choice for a dog-friendly holiday to the Peak District in Derbyshire, the town of Buxton is world-famous for its water. Bottles of Buxton Water are a common sight in our supermarkets, but its association with drink manufacturing dates back to the town’s Georgian heyday as a spa town. Visitors used to flock to the town for the healing qualities of its water – today you can marvel at the buildings that still remain like the opulent Grand Crescent, the Opera House, spa houses and hydros. Holidaymakers still come to Buxton to ‘take the waters’ which spring up from deep below ground at a constant 28 degrees in temperature.
There’s more to Buxton than its water and there are lots of dog-friendly attractions to be found. There are also lots of dog-friendly places to eat too no matter what your tastes are. Poole Cavern café is a good spot for lunch, although the pooch can’t venture underground, the sounds and scents are an excellent consolation. Buxton Country Park and the Pavillion Gardens (that play host to the annual Buxton Festival each July) are unbeatable prospects for fun and japery with the dog too! If you love Victorian and Georgian architecture, a pad around the Grand Crescent and the shopping district. Many shops don’t mind if your dog visits you. There may even be some treats in it for them. The centre of town is a great place to sit at a street café to people and dog watch.
Beyond Buxton, you will find the wonderful wilds of the dog-friendly Peak District National Park, the bewitching Macclesfield Forest, Castleton and Edale (12 miles away) which sits at the origin point/southern end of the Pennine Way: Great Britain’s oldest National Trail, extending 253 miles northwards into Scotland. Close to Edale is the highest point in the Peak District, Kinder Scout, at 636 metres above sea level, its stark beauty is unforgettable. You and your dog will love it.
