Is Berwick-upon-Tweed dog friendly?

Yes. In fact, it is so dog friendly that a participant in our latest Travellers’ Tails survey told us that:

  • The area is geared towards dogs
  • The majority of shops and pubs are dog friendly and have posters in windows
  • There are plenty of waste bins and poo bag stations.

And these are just some of the fantastic things people had to say about dog-friendly Berwick-upon-Tweed.

Why plan a holiday in Berwick-upon-Tweed?

Packed with history due to its turbulent past and proximity to the Scottish Borders, there are a plethora of interesting places to visit in this part of dog-friendly Northumberland, including the town’s old courtroom and museums in Berwick Barracks and The Main Guard.

The town has lots to do for families, including a splash park and swimming pool, while art and literature lovers won’t be left out with the excellent choice of art galleries, some great annual film, literature, and music festivals, and access to the renowned Lowry Trail.

If you have come for the walking, you won’t have far to go from our pet-friendly cottages in Berwick-upon-Tweed. As well as a casual stroll around the town visiting the dog-friendly establishments, you are only a stick’s throw from beautiful riverside walks as well as the Northumberland Coast National Landscape. Here, huge stretches of beach – such as the nearby Spittal Beach – are dominated by castles and National Nature Reserves and await you and your four-legged friends.

After a day of adventure, stop at a pet-welcoming village pub for a bite to eat with your hungry hound before heading back to your dream cottage to relax for the evening.
