Pet-friendly cottages & accommodation in Rye, Sussex
Rye is a lovely dog-friendly town close to the East Sussex coast and the county border with Kent. With plenty of open spaces in and around the town, Rye is a superb destination to escape the day-to-day. Rye is located at the top of the hill and looks across the marshes to the sea in the distance. With castle walls surrounding the mount, there is a lot to see. The narrow cobbled streets are a delight to wander through with your hound; see if you can find Henry James’ old house. Also, seek out Rye Park and Recreation Area down by the River Rother for a pleasant open space close to the centre of town. Keep your dog on the lead for a trip to the atmospheric Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, a great spot for a walk. There’s so much birdlife to see there.
Further afield from Rye is the wonderful Camber Sands, one of the largest and best sandy beaches on the South Coast. With excellent facilities, and unobstructive restrictions on dog access and miles of sandy beach to run and play on, look no further than this spectacular spot. Other great beaches are the pebbly Pett Level and Pevensey Beach with their views across the English Channel. Windswept Dungeness is an iconic stop with its dramatic nuclear power station, miles of shingle, unusual architecture of the fisherman’s dwellings, lighthouses and two pubs that both compete to provide the best fish and chips around. Take your hound aboard the small gauge steam train as far as Hythe (near Folkestone).
