This beautiful apartment, in the village’s former post office, is full of character and charm. The property sleeps four guests and is perfect for a small family or two couples. The cottage has a cosy wood burner to snuggle in front of in the evenings, after a long day walking in the fells. You’re spoilt for choice of dog walks in the area, with the banks of Derwentwater, Ullswater and Windermere all within 25 miles.
The ground-floor apartment has a cosy lounge where you can warm toes and paws in front of the wood burner and watching the smart TV. There’s also a window seat where you can curl up with a good book to watch the world go by. The kitchen/diner has everything you need to rustle up a tasty meal, as well as ample room for your dog to set up camp. Upstairs, a super-king-size zip-and-link bed and a king-size bed await evening slumbers. Outside, discover an enclosed, shared courtyard where the pup can stretch their legs, along with racks to store bikes.
Numerous walks branch away from Rosthwaite, with the Coast to Coast Walk and the Cumbria Way passing through the village. If you and Rover fancy a challenge head to Scafell Pike. The rocky terrain of England’s highest mountain isn’t suitable for all paws, but if your dog is used to fell climbing and has a head for heights, you’ll be rewarded with the most spectacular views across all four nations of the British Isles. Pretty Ambleside (22.5 miles) is a great base for dog walkers, with many independent eateries welcoming canine guests. From here, you can walk to Stock Ghyll Force, which is particularly magical in spring when the floor is carpeted in daffodils.
