Weston-super-Mare in Somerset is a superb choice for a dog-friendly holiday by the sea. Looking out over the Bristol Channel, Weston-super-Mare is home to a wide beach and long promenade where you can relax and watch the world go by with your dog. A traditional British seaside resort, Weston-super-Mare has one of the grandest piers in the country – it looks like a deluxe spaceship. The beach is lined with amusement arcades, winter gardens, a boating lake, ice cream vans and a spot to take a donkey for a ride. Dogs have whole swathes of the beach to enjoy – although there are restricted zones during the warmer months (see local onsite information). The town centre is very close to the seafront. You will find that many of the cafes and restaurants welcome dogs and there’s even seating out on the pavements during the summer.

Follow the promenade northwards to the restoration project of the curious ruins of the Birnbeck Pier. There is a pleasant café landside with great views across to the remnants of Birnbeck, the only pier located on a small island. You can also take a boat from the harbour to Steep Holm and Flat Holm which are two nature reserve islands out in the Bristol Channel.

Weston-super-Mare’s neighbour Burnham-on-Sea is a lovely place for the dog to run wild along the beach. The beach is wide and a great spot for exercise. Although, some stretches have a permanent dog ban there’s still plenty of room for everybody. Other great attractions include the West Somerset Railway, Puxton Park, Ebbor Gorge, Brean Sands and Sand Point (2 miles the north).
