For a hound who loves woodland walks and breezy beach days, this romantic rural escape for two makes the perfect choice. Wake up to lake views and the sound of birdsong, and end the day snuggled by the wood burner or swinging in your very own hammock by the fire pit.
Return to the simple life with a stay in this peaceful lakeside shepherd’s hut, which features a traditional barrel-shaped roof and corrugated iron-clad exterior. There are five wooden steps up to the door, and then you and your mutt will step into a compact studio layout where everything is within easy reach. Pop a dog bed on the floor before investigating the cheery kitchen, which features a ceramic sink, two-ring gas hob and fridge. Tucked at one end is a charming double bed, which can be closed off by a pair of curtains. On warm days the hut can be filled with a fresh breeze by opening the top half of the stable door – no danger of your pal escaping – and if you feel chilly simply light the wood burner for a warming glow. There’s a central drying rack for damp dog coats and outdoor gear, and an en-suite shower room offers a refreshing start to each day. Outside, wooden chairs and hammocks invite you to unwind by the water, with a fire pit and BBQ for relaxed evenings. You’ll have parking for one car.
The hut is just a mile from Holt Country Park, a favourite of dog walkers, which comprises 100 acres of parkland and woodland with waymarked trails. The Georgian market town of Holt is 2 miles away, with many dog-friendly shops and cafes, and you can reach the coast in around 6 miles, for fabulous coastal walks and runs on beaches.
