Our pawsome Canine Critic Poppy paid a visit to DogFest's newest event, DogFest West, and couldn't wait to bark about her big day out! We had a chat with her humans Cara and Andy to find out more about their experience at the 'ultimate summer festival for dogs'.
Have you ever been to DogFest before? If not, how was your first time and was it what you expected?
No, this was our very first time! It was great that they introduced Dogfest West in Bristol this year which is only down the road for us and Ashton Court was a lovely venue. We’ve been to a few dog shows in the past year with Poppy but this has been by far our favourite, there was just so much to see and do and we’ve never seen so many dogs in one place!
It was super-hot the day you went, how did Poppy and the other dogs cope with the heat?
The Dogfest team were great on the day providing plenty of water and paddling pools around the venue to cool the dogs down. Poppy is super fluffy so we soaked her bandana in cold water every so often to keep her cool while we were walking around. There were also a couple of stands selling cooling gear, so hundreds of dogs had matching cooling coats by the end of the day.
What was your favourite part of the day?
We absolutely loved meeting lots of our Instagram pals at the hound hangout and finally putting names to faces, all of the dogs got plenty of cuddles and fuss and the humans had plenty to chat about!
Did you get a chance to see any of the talks?
Unfortunately, we didn’t get to any of the talks ☹ We did see some amazing demos though; our favourites were the dog and duck show (Poppy wanted to join in and chase the ducks!) and the K9 dog display – the dogs were jumping through hoops of fire, it was seriously impressive!
There are lots of stalls at the event, did you get Poppy any nice treats while she was there?
We loved wandering around the stalls and there really was everything you could possibly need for your dog at one stand or another. It was lovely to meet Margaret from Dogrobes who made one of Poppy’s Canine Critic prizes which has already had plenty of use. There were also lots of dog food stands and I think Poppy tasted her way around all of them, sniffing out free samples everywhere she went!
Our favourite stand was Guru Dog Food; the team are so lovely and it was a great spot for a photo on their armchairs! We also picked up some lovely training treats and bedtime biscuits from The Dog House to come home with, Poppy absolutely loves them.
Would you go back to DogFest again?
Absolutely! We can’t wait to go again next year!
Is there anything you would improve about the event or anything you’d really like to see next year?
No - they really have thought of everything, we'd love to go along to more of the activities next year as we just ran out of time on the day.
