If you prefer moorland, head further into Exmoor to find plenty of footpaths and dog-friendly tearooms; Lynton and Lynmouth’s cliff railway is a particular highlight. For sand and surf, head to one of the finest beaches in the South West, Woolacombe (9 miles) – you will not be disappointed.
