Perfectly combining original features such as exposed ceiling beams with tail-wagging homely touches, the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner boasts a true warmth that invites you to spend quality time with your whole pack. Your four-legged friend won’t be able to resist dozing on the rug at your feet as you share tales of the day’s adventures seated around the dining table or on the comfortable sofa as the culinary geniuses amongst your pack rustle up some tasty treats. When you long to stop chasing your tail, you have one twin and one double bedroom downstairs, which share a family bathroom. A super-king-size bedroom is found up the spiral staircase, tucked away in the eaves, featuring a characterful sloping ceiling. An upstairs bathroom completes the interior. Outside, little paws will love padding around the enclosed patio as you dine alfresco to the sound of birdsong.

The only sound you’ll hear as you explore the sleepy rural village of Ennerdale Bridge is the tinkle of your canine companion’s collar in the breeze. Keen walkers can take four-pawed friends on a gentle walk along the banks of the River Liza or for a hike into the fells in the tail-wagging walking country of Ennerdale, 2 miles away, which lies on the north western edge of the Lake District National Park. Treat your pup to an afternoon of practising doggy paddle at St Bees Beach, 7 miles away, before joining the cliff-top coastal walk to the headland above to be rewarded with some fetching sea views.

We loved the location, though the view and outside seating area were limited. The cottage was well-equipped (though a freezer compartment in the fridge would be useful) and the welcome pack was good. Ennerdale Bridge is a pretty village with two excellent pubs, and the Gather, a community-run cafe and centre for lots of activities. There were wondeRead morerful walks at nearby Ennerdale Water. A great base for exploring West Cumbria, which is not as busy as the central Lakes, but is recommended. Hide
