A stick’s throw from the peaceful village of Gilsland, this stone-built retreat is perfect for couples looking to reconnect with nature by exploring the magnificent borderlands of Cumbria and Northumberland with their four-pawed third wheel.

At the end of a long walkies, the spacious open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner that welcomes you is brimming with stunning features that’ll set tails wagging; exposed beams and homely touches add character and plenty of warmth. Whip up some tasty treats with your fabulous local produce in the contemporary kitchen before unwinding weary walking muscles on the plush sofa that’s perfectly positioned to catch up on your favourite programme on the Smart TV. Take the lead to the twin bedroom, to enjoy a peaceful rest before kick-starting your next adventure with a refreshing shower in the sleek, contemporary en-suite shower room. While the beds aren’t zip-and-link, they can be positioned together on request. Outside, the open front patio is a wonderful spot to soak up the sweeping views of rolling fields. Please note that dogs should be kept on a lead once outside the cottage. There’s private parking for two cars at the property.

Surrounded by rolling countryside, there’s direct access to scenic footpaths and cycling trails along the borderlands of Cumbria and Northumberland beginning from the doorstep. Situated on Hadrian’s Wall, the sleepy village of Gilsland, 2 miles away, offers some wonderful walks around the village and through its breathtaking scenery to discover with your four-legged friend in tow. Take the lead to the pretty market town of Brampton, 10.5 miles away, to sniff out some wonderful local produce from its fabulous selection of independent shops, cafés and restaurants before finding plenty of sticks to fetch along the surrounding footpaths and bridleways that weave through woods, fields and moorlands.

A wonderful cottage holiday. House Martin cottage had everything that we needed for our 5 night stay as the owners had carefully thought of everything that one might need while on holiday. The cottage was very clean and thoughtfully decorated to a high standard. The owners where very friendly and helpful and genuinely care for their visitors. TRead morehe cottage location on the edge of the forest is really special and ideal as both a peaceful retreat and a place to watch the wildlife. The welcome basket was very much appreciated as was the milk in the fridge. This is certainly somewhere we wish to revisit. Hide

Lovely comfortable cottage, a real home from home. You wouldn't know there were people staying in the cottage next door. The owners are super friendly and helpful if you need it. The lovely welcome basket for us and our dogs was a treat. The provided dog towels and fluffy blankets make dealing with soggy dogs after a walk so much easier. We had a wonderful stay at House Martin Cottage in Gilsland. The cottage is brand new, beautifully finished, and spotlessly clean, with everything we needed for a relaxing break. The welcome basket was a lovely surprise and set the tone for a very comfortable stay. The location is idyllicpeaceful and surrounded by countryside, with Hadrians Wall aRead morend excellent walking routes right on the doorstep. Evenings on the patio, looking out across the fields, were a highlight, and the dark skies made for incredible stargazing. Its a perfect retreat for anyone wanting to unwind in a beautiful part of the country, and wed happily recommend it to others. Were already looking forward to returning. Hide

The cottage was great - very comfortable, warm and well equipped with everything we could need (and more!). The beds were really comfortable and the owner was very friendly and helpful. The location was ideal for Hadrian's Wall walks.
