Full-length windows and doors to the patio flood the open-plan living area with light. The lounge, with large, comfortable sofas and a wood burner, opens to a roomy, country-style kitchen and dining area. A pretty double bedroom with an en-suite shower room completes the ground floor. Upstairs are two super-king-size bedrooms, with one also housing a daybed, and a bunk bedroom suitable for children. There is a family bathroom and a separate shower. Outside, the patio has seating, a BBQ and lovely views across the moat.

The nearby pretty village of Bildeston, (2 miles) has winding streets lined with splendid timber-framed buildings and traditional pubs serving local produce. From the village, a network of footpaths and cycle tracks lead into the lovely countryside. Other beautiful places to explore include Lavenham (9 miles), considered the UK’s best preserved medieval village and Kersey (6 miles), with its ford and historic houses. Picturesque Kersey Mill produces stoneground flour and is set in 18 acres of serene gardens, where pets on leads receive a warm welcome.
