Reminders of the past are everywhere in this beautiful holiday let set on the grounds of historic Wattisham Hall. This characterful property has exposed beams throughout and overlooks a medieval moat surrounding the Hall. Sleeping seven guests, plus one canine companion, it offers a peaceful retreat for a family or group of friends to enjoy time together. Luxurious extras include a private hot tub on the enclosed patio, and a large, shared, indoor games room. There is ample indoor space for your pet and country walks on the doorstep for Fido to sniff out too.
The retreat is furnished in light or neutral tones, with touches of colour and pale wood that complement the fine timber beams. A vaulted ceiling is a striking feature of the spacious, open-plan living area. This houses comfortable sofas with views of the moat and a wood burner for chilly nights, with French doors to the patio. There is a roomy dining area and a neat, country-style kitchen. The ground floor has two inviting bedrooms – a double and a single – and both family bathrooms. Upstairs are a spacious super-king-size and a twin. Outside, the secluded patio overlooks the moat, with seating and a BBQ.
If dining out appeals, visit the pretty village of Bildeston (2 miles), where traditional pubs serve home-cooked local food. Visit family-run Hilly Ridge Alpacas in Wattisham village, for a walk with these photogenic animals. Pets cannot join you, but dog-sitters will find superb walks leading from the farm car park. The museum at Wattisham Airfield (4 miles) is a must for aircraft buffs. Further afield, visit the beautiful villages of Kersey (6 miles) and Lavenham (9 miles), to enjoy their winding streets and historic timber-framed buildings. Dogs on leads are welcome in the lovely water gardens at Kersey Mill.
