With plenty of walks on your doorstep, you don’t need to go far, but the surrounding countryside is teeming with walking trails and picturesque views. Blakey Ridge (8 miles) for example has some of the most stunning views in the country. Local towns/villages make great starting and finishing points for walks as they all have a selection of independent shops and eateries. For example, artisan crafters’ centre, Hutton-le-Hole (3 miles), art and antique-hunters’ favourite, Kirkbymoorside (2.5 miles) and foodies’ haven, Helmsley (8 miles). Further afield, Whitby and Scarborough (both within 32 miles) are popular seaside resorts steeped in history.
