Meet the judges picking our 2023 Canine Critic

Kate W 17 May 2023

We’ve called in some fantastic humans and canines who’ve agreed to be our judges, helping us hunt down this year’s Canine Critic.

With a variety of backgrounds and extensive knowledge on all things dog related, we are certain that, even though it’ll be tough, these wonderful judges will find the right pup for the job. They know their Bonios from their Kongs, their dachshunds from their Malamutes, and they are all looking forward to pawing through your entries!

Meet this year’s fantastic Canine Critic judges below.

Meet the judges:

Ali Taylor (Battersea)

Ali Taylor (Battersea)

Ali Taylor is a long-time friend of Canine Cottages. This is her second year on the judging panel and we are thrilled to have her back lending her expertise.

Ali is the Head of Canine Behaviour and Training at Battersea and, if you want to find out more about this fascinating role, you can get a behind-the-scenes look at the important work she does or find out how we’ve teamed up with Battersea.

See what Ali Taylor has to say about this year’s competition…

“I’m delighted to be invited back on the Canine Critics judging panel for another year with Canine Cottages. At Battersea, we are proud to be there for every dog and cat, taking them in and caring for them regardless of their age, breed or medical condition and without judgement. It is great to see that Canine Cottages is similarly dedicated to welcoming all dogs, no matter what breed, to their dog-friendly cottages. I’m looking forward to seeing the Canine Critics applicants for 2023 and helping to select some lucky dogs to help to review these dog-friendly holidays around the UK.”

Scrumbles

Scrumbles

You may have already heard of Scrumbles – if you haven’t, go check them out! This quality brand really cares about the health of our four-pawed friends with a focus on gut-friendly pet food to keep our pups in tip-top condition.

The founders made an appearance on Dragons’ Den back in 2018, and actually turned down Deborah Meaden, so they understand what it’s like competing for something you care about.

Here’s what they had to say to everyone entering…

“Having gone through the rounds with the judges in the Den, it’s nice to finally be on the other side. We’re stoked to be helping Canine Cottages choose one very impawtent doggy for such a special mission, and we can’t wait to see all your entries!”

Darcy & Darla - 2022 Critics

Darcy & Darla - 2022 Critics

Finally, Darcy and Darla’s pup parent, Molly, has agreed to give us a hand finding this year’s Canine Critic winner, and she knows exactly what it’s like entering this competition, having won it last year with her two amazing canine pals!

She also understands what it takes to perform the duties of a Canine Critic and will be reviewing all entrees with a close eye to find the perfect pup to pass the mantle to.

Here’s what Molly wanted to say about taking on the role of judge this year…

“I am so excited to be on the judging panel for the 2023 Canine Critics! Being the 2022 winner has been an absolute rollercoaster, a dream come true for me and my girls... we haven’t taken a moment for granted and we hope the 2023 winners have as much fun as we did! This means I know exactly what this once-in-a-lifetime role entails, so I’m definitely looking for some dogs and their owners who crave adventure and love to explore. Also, a love for finding local gems is a must as well as seeing what the area around their cottage has to offer for both dogs and their humans!”
