We've raised over £100,000 for Battersea

Battersea 07 April 2025

At Canine Cottages, we’ve proudly been supporting Battersea since March 2021. Over the last four years, we’re delighted to have been able to donate over £100,000 which is helping towards various areas of their vital work.

To celebrate this milestone, we’ll explore how our ongoing support, including our Canine Comfort collection, is helping to make a positive impact on the animals Battersea helps every day, as well as the people who love them.

Ongoing expert care

As one of the UK’s leading animal welfare charities, Battersea has been here for dogs and cats for over 160 years. They take in animals regardless of their age, breed or medical condition, and throughout their history, have cared for more than 3 million dogs and cats.

Expert care is at the heart of what Battersea does; from rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming animals across their three centres to providing training and sharing resources with rescue organisations around the world. They have acquired a wealth of expertise which has allowed them to build trust and affinity amongst animal lovers across the UK and beyond.

Our support is helping Battersea make a huge difference to the lives of dogs and cats who deserve a second chance in life. From supporting the dedicated staff and volunteers, who provide exceptional care for animals and prepare them for their new homes, to helping cover the costs of everyday essentials such as food, bedding and medicine.

Boomer, a Basset Hound in the garden at Battersea.

Dogs such as Boomer, a 10-year-old Basset Hound, arrived at Battersea as a stray. Even though she was full of life, Battersea’s team of veterinary experts found that Boomer had several health problems that needed urgent treatment. However, she remained upbeat and loved receiving attention from Battersea staff. After receiving the expert care she needed, which included an ear flush, dental surgery and the removal of a tumour, Boomer made a swift recovery. Battersea’s Canine Behaviour team helped build her confidence with a personalised training plan before Boomer’s loving ways soon helped her find a new family, who say she’s ruling the house with her playful diva behaviour.

Over the years, our support has helped promote Battersea’s Wear Blue for Rescue campaign, which is all about showing your love for rescue throughout the month of September.

For animals and humans alike, Wear Blue for Rescue offers plenty of ways for everyone to get involved. Whether it’s buying an item from Battersea featuring the Rescue symbol or signing up to Walk for Rescue, Battersea’s dog-walking challenge, every penny raised makes a huge difference to the lives of rescue dogs and cats, everywhere.

Fostering and volunteering

Our support has also helped Battersea’s fostering and volunteering programmes. This has made a positive impact on dogs like Ray, who was brought to Battersea from a Greyhound rescue after being retired from racing.

When he arrived, he was very nervous and found life in Battersea’s kennels a little overwhelming. Battersea’s Canine Behaviour team decided that Ray would benefit from staying in a foster home to improve his confidence. Fostering gave Ray the opportunity to relax and his gentle personality eventually started to shine. He got used to life in a home environment, and after four months out on foster, he settled into his new home with a loving family.

We are funding welcome packs for Battersea dogs on foster. For each booking made with Canine Cottages, Canine Cottages will give £2 + VAT to Battersea Dogs Home Limited, which donates its profits to Battersea Dogs and Cats Home (registered charity no. 206394). If the amount raised exceeds these costs, any additional monies will be treated as unrestricted income.

Battersea's wider work

Did you know that Battersea supports animal centres around the UK and even across the world? Last year, through their Grants Programmes, Battersea was able to help over 300,000 dogs and cats worldwide and improve animal welfare standards.

They also engage with the wider public, acting as a voice for animals when they’re being treated unfairly or deserve better. From campaigning for compulsory microchipping for animals to more pet-friendly properties (which has seen outstanding progress with the introduction of the Renters’ Rights Bill), support from Canine Cottages is helping Battersea lobby for change.

At Canine Cottages, we’re proud to support Battersea’s vital work and their aim to help even more dogs and cats in the years ahead. You can learn more about how Battersea is making a real and lasting difference to dogs and cats who need a second chance by visiting their website.
