Holidays in Fordingbridge
Pet-friendly holidays in Fordingbridge
Fordingbridge is a small riverside town which is known by many as the northern gateway to the New Forest. The perfect spot for a holiday in Hampshire with your four-legged friend, there is an abundance of walks in the surrounding area of our dog-friendly cottages in Fordinbridge.
The town has a dark and interesting history, one in which smuggling was rife and the notorious Captain Diamond, the ‘Smuggler King’, would stay with his illegal hoards. Other industries in the town kept on the right side of the law, including cloth making, for which the town was a hub in the 16th century. If you’re interested in history, take some time to explore St Mary’s Church, which was mentioned in the Domesday Book and features a memorial to James Alexander Seton, the last British man killed in a duel in England, within its churchyard. Another claim to fame for the unassuming town, is the artist Paul Kidby, whose illustrations featured on the jackets of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series.
From our dog-friendly Fordingbridge cottages, you can easily explore numerous dog-friendly attractions in the New Forest, including Exbury Gardens and Steam Railway (24.5 miles), the beautiful grounds of Beaulieu (26 miles), the New Forest Heritage Centre (14.5 miles) and the New Forest Reptile Centre (16 miles) to name but a few. In Fordingbridge itself, dogs are welcome in the grounds of the museum, and there are plenty of outdoor spaces, including the riverside park and Recreation Ground.
The long-distance Avon Valley Path passes through Fordingbridge, great for evening dog walks or longer adventures. Godshill (4 miles), too, is a popular spot for walking.
