Delightful cottage for a romantic break, set in the countryside with plenty to do and see in the area both on foot and by car. Perfect for a couple who want to relax and explore.
This wonderful property, located just 11.5 miles from Durham, is an ideal romantic retreat for two – or three if you include the dog! Sleeping you both in a sumptuous king-size bed and with a dedicated enclosed dog-walking field for letting Fido play, it won’t be long before you’re all up and out exploring the coast and country. Go for a walk through the ancient local woodlands to Causey Arch half a mile away, the world’s oldest remaining single span bridge, or walk the coast path around Seaham for dramatic views of rugged cliffs and imposing headlands.
The cottage, which is one of three on a former farm, has a bright and airy contemporary style. Tasteful downlighting in the open-plan living area means that you’ve got plenty of light in the day to enjoy a good book on the sofa but you can draw the curtains and blinds in the evening to turn it into a cosy haven. Enjoy an indulgent soak in the stylish bathroom at the end of a long day out walking before snuggling into bed among charming grey and yellow tones for a tranquil night’s sleep. In the morning, take your coffee out to the shared patio and soak up the rays as the sun rises.
You’re just 3 miles from famous Beamish, the Living Museum of the North, which welcomes dogs and is a must-visit. If history is your thing, head to Derwentcote Steel Furnace (6 miles) to see how they made iron in the 1700s. The 18th-century landscape gardens at Gibside (4.5 miles) have fine Derwent Valley views and refreshing open spaces within 600 acres of parkland to discover. Follow the River Wear through spectacular Weardale scenery on the Weardale Railway (16.5 miles) or stay closer to home and ride on the oldest railway at Tanfield (1 mile).
