Stunning property full of character set high upon a hill which boasts breath-taking views across the 7 counties and walks from your doorstep
This superb property, situated within the Brecon Beacons National Park in quiet village Oldcastle, is perfect for your family or group of friends – including your loyal hound, of course! Sleeping four across two cosy bedrooms that have stunning original features, you could all soon be enjoying the fantastic views and countryside walks available from your door. Featured on Channel 4’s Grand Designs, this cottage is set almost a mile up Hatterell Hill near the top of the Black Mountains and offers outstanding views across numerous landmarks, including the ‘Holy Mountain’, Skirrid Fawr (7 miles).
The cottage, which can only be accessed by a 4x4, is bright and airy with a wonderful mix of contemporary and traditional furnishings. The kitchen has everything you need to cook up a storm, including an Aga, while the living area features exposed beams and earthy country tones that invite you to sink back into the sofa in front of the wood burner with your pup by your feet. Upstairs, the bedrooms welcome you in for a perfect night’s sleep; enjoy stunning views and a huge choice of books in the master bedroom.
Head down the hill to Abergavenny (8 miles) for their weekly markets and many cafes and restaurants, or stroll around Linda Vista Gardens with your canine. Hay-on-Wye (15 miles) is a pretty town to visit for browsing bookshops, or if you’re feeling more adventurous you can hire a canoe to take out on the River Wye. There are also peaceful spots along the River Usk to fish, and you can pick up day permits from Crickhowell (13.5 miles) or Usk (18 miles). Why not start the 150-mile Herefordshire Trail at Ross-on-Wye (26 miles) for a long day of walking? There’s no need to worry about muddy paws since there’s a hose available.
Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.
