Nature lovers and two of their furry pals will be in their element at this stylish barn conversion set on a 12-acre farm on the edge of the rural hamlet of Alverstone. It’s surrounded by paddocks and a pond, with plenty of wildlife to interact with, including horses, free-range chickens and ducks. The cottage sits in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with picturesque walking routes on your doorstep that are bound to set tails wagging.
Inside, the cottage features charming exposed beams, old wooden floorboards and plenty of natural light throughout. On chilly evenings, bare feet – and paws – will appreciate the heated tiled floor and warming wood burner in the corner of the lounge. In summer, throw open the French doors and take drinks and water bowls into the garden. You could even enjoy a BBQ while watching the wildlife make a splash on the water. Upstairs, there are two attractive bedrooms, one spacious double with views across the fields and one compact twin, which is perfect for children.
When it’s time for walkies, we recommend visiting the sea at Bembridge (6 miles) in the east. Dogs can run free on Bembridge Beach all year round and explore the rockpools at low tide. A little closer to home, the charming village of Newchurch is a mile from the property and has an excellent dog-friendly pub for enjoying hearty meals out. The Garlic Farm (2.5 miles) has everything you need to know about the pungent plant – and you can even sample garlic beer and garlic ice cream. It welcomes canine companions in all outdoor areas and the restaurant terrace.
