Stay in the unspoiled Scottish Highlands, where stunning beaches, rugged countryside and vast fishing lochs offer plenty to do for holidaymakers looking for an outdoor adventure break.

Surrounded by rolling hills, this quaint whitewashed cottage close to Loch More is the ideal destination for friends, including four-legged ones, seeking a remote retreat for a relaxing break in the North West Highlands. Spend the days walking the stunning landscape with your canine companion at your side, ramble along the banks of the loch and enjoy a doggy paddle from the shore. The loch is a paradise for anglers and a boat and rods are included in your stay.

Enjoying a tranquil location far from the distractions of daily life, your cosy single-storey bungalow has a warm and welcoming feel with comfortable furniture and bright soft furnishings. After a day of fishing on Loch More, rustle up a hearty meal in the sunny kitchen to share around the large dining room table enjoying the wonderful views. In the evenings, rest your paws in the homely lounge, where you can unwind on one of the squishy chairs while your hound stretches out in front of the woodburner. When it’s time for bed, there are two light and airy twin bedrooms, decorated in calming shades for you to drift off to sleep. Your cottage is surrounded by an enclosed garden with plenty of space for your pup to stretch their legs.

Located in the Reay Forest Estate, tails will wag at the array of walks on offer straight from the front door. Stroll to lovely Loch More less than half a mile away for a spot of fishing or a wander along the shoreline spotting the range of wildlife that visits the waterside. Put your best paw forward on a hike up Ben Stack (9 miles) for excellent views across the Highlands. Further afield, the pretty crofting village of Scourie (19 miles) is well worth a visit. Take the lead on a walk to Maldie Burn, an impressive waterfall on the banks of Loch Dhu, before stopping for a drink in the dog-friendly hotel bar.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Lace up your walking boots; the Reay Forest Estate is home to famed mountains such as Ben Stack (7.5 miles) and Arkle (10 miles), both with excellent hiking routes to explore. For even more adventure, try white water rafting in Aberfeldy

Get closer to the local wildlife at Handa Island (19 miles), where bird watchers will be amazed as nearly 100,000 seabirds breed here each summer, including guillemots, razorbills and great skuas. Plus, the dramatic sandstone cliffs provide stunning ocean panoramas that need to be seen to be believed.

Walk the rugged coastline, starting from Durness (30 miles) - the most north-westerly village in the British mainland. Here you'll find a string of sheltered sandy coves, as well as the beautiful Balnakiel beach (31.5 miles) and Smoo Cave (31 miles).

The geopark is a haven for keen fishermen and women, with brown trout fishing available on a number of the estate hill lochs, with sea trout and salmon fishing also available on Loch Stack and Loch More. If you prefer to eat your fish rather than catch it, embark on a day trip to Lairg (26 miles) where you will find restaurants and other eateries, as well as shops to explore, or head to the bi-weekly fish market at Kinlochbervie (20 miles).

Wonderful break it was just perfect. Cottage was lovely and cosy. Fished most days as you just walk to loch and boat there. Walked everyday with dog and outside was fenced to keep deer out but also keeps dog in. Definitely recommend a visit.

Cottage really welcoming and staff extremely helpful. Would love to go again but for longer next time.

Excellent setup for a fishing holiday. The estate office were really helpful with any enquiries. Opening times of places to eat very limited.

Everything offered in the cottage worked, very neat and clean, guidance was accurate, WiFi marginal but that may be a blessing as one may want to enjoy the settings than worry about rest of the world. Location is remote, serene and windy. Lochinver, Ullapool and Kylesku areas are best places to visit from this location. Highly recommended.

We really enjoyed our short break in this well appointed and comfortable cottage. If you love remoteness, peace and quiet and beautiful scenery this is the ideal location for exploring a wonderful part of the country. The estate team were also most helpful and friendly.
