This is a gorgeous period property right on the water’s edge with beautiful estuary views. It’s in the little Devon village of Appledore, with cobbled streets, quirky shops and plenty of atmosphere. It’s the perfect place for beach-loving dogs, with lots of stunning sandy beaches close at hand, and you’ll find fabulous local walks around the estuary. If you want the perfect combination of countryside, seaside and town, this could just be it.
Inside, you’ll find a light, airy Victorian cottage that’s been thoughtfully decorated with lots of quirky touches. The open-plan living/dining space is attractive and comfortable, with a family-sized dining table, a comfortable sofa and a wood burner to keep you all warm after a day out exploring. There is a separate, well-equipped kitchen – you could spend evenings cooking and eating local fish while the dogs’ snooze. There are two bedrooms sleeping four in total, one with amazing sea views. Outside is a little courtyard garden with a dining table, perfect for sunny breakfasts and evenings under the stars.
The cottage is in the centre of Appledore, close to pubs, restaurants and shops. In the summer, there are boats over to the village of Instow on the other side of the estuary, where you’ll find a pretty sandy beach. Northam Burrows Country Park is just a mile away, reachable easily on foot from the house and perfect for seaside country walks. There are lots of amazing walks along the South West Coast Path and the Tarka Trail, while the wilds of Exmoor are around 20 miles away.
