You’ll be on the edge of the North Pennines and perfectly positioned for discovering the delights of the north-east. It’s one of four restored cottages; you may consider renting out these too if you’re in a bigger party.

After driving up the long tree-lined drive towards your front door, take a moment to admire the pristine rustic exterior of your temporary dwelling. The inside has a contemporary feel to it, with neutral whites and greys accented with sleek blacks. In the modern kitchen you’ll find everything you need for preparing group feasts. Outside there’s a garden for relaxing in on sunny days; lap up the views while the dog plays with her rubber bone nearby. You’ll have shared use of the on-site swimming pool, spa and sauna, and there’s also a bar and restaurant you can visit for drinks and food.

Allensford, where this accommodation is located, is a small hamlet on the edge of the North Pennines, where you can take long, scenic walks through this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The site is lovely, and conveniently situated to places. The restaurant and pub serve a lovely, varied menu, the prices of which are reasonable, and the staff are very friendly and efficient. The only downside for us was that our cottage was near the entertainment, which went on until midnight, the music was super loud, and our daughter, when in heRead morer bedroom, could even hear the hand drier in that building being used!! The cottage was very clean, and the maids emptied our bins daily. 8/10 Hide

The cottage was amazing and the view was stunning. Staff were really nice but bring old swimwear for the hot tub. There is that much chlorine in there that it bleached my shorts from black to almost nude, as well as some of the others bikinis.

Cottage is a little tired looking. Sofa and chairs were comfy. Kitchen small and needs a bit of TLC. There wasn't anywhere to really store food bits because there wasn't any shelves in the cupboards. Fridge also needed fixing. Overall we enjoyed our stay. The cottage just needs a bit of tidying up

Derwent 1 is a cottage - lovely walled garden , fab view to Hownsgill viaduct. Dining indoors is a touch challenging in the linear galley kitchen , but the outdoor table and seats are sturdy and adequate. The hot tub is WONDERFUL:. We had a relaxed week with babies and toddlers, making full use of the swimming pool in our booked sessions.
