Approached by a single-track lane and surrounded by Lakeland countryside, this beautiful bolthole is within striking distance of two of the region’s most famous features: Coniston Water and the Old Man of Coniston. Footpaths lead directly from the doorstep to both – enjoy a leisurely steam yacht ride along the lake, or head in the opposite direction for views from the Old Man’s summit that stretch as far as the coast. Refuel at the fine choice of inns and eateries in Coniston village, less than a mile away, or drive 3.4 miles to Brantwood, the former home and gorgeous gardens of artist John Ruskin. Further on, Grizedale Forest (7.5 miles) has walking and cycling trails plus a Go Ape treetop adventure, and is en route to Ambleside (8.5 miles), which sits at the northern end of Windermere, England’s largest lake.
This handsome stone cottage is among a small collection of holiday hideaways on the owner’s farm, and has private parking so you can unpack at a leisurely pace. Step through the porch and straight into an open-plan social space with scene-stealing beams and, at one end, a striking open fireplace. A choice of soft seating and Smart TV complement the styling of this lounge area; close by, the dining suite makes a pleasant setting for home-cooked meals served fresh from the chic, country-style kitchen. A shower room completes the ground-floor layout and is complemented by another on the first floor, which serves the two lovely double bedrooms nearby.
Get a feel for rural life from your garden, which is enclosed and comes with picnic bench-style seating and a lawn.
