Escape from the hustle and bustle and retreat to this delightful barn conversion in rural North Devon, with your loved one and two canine companions. Perfect for a romantic break away, this cosy one-bedroom home enjoys a secluded countryside location with some great walks and rambles on the doorstep. If you’re craving the coast, the area’s stunning beaches are a short drive away.

This pretty cottage is one of three properties situated in this peaceful area and offers a comfortable, homely base for your break. The open-plan living area boasts traditional vaulted beamed ceilings which add to its character and charm. Your furry pals will make a beeline for the best spot in front of the warming wood burner, which creates a lovely ambience in the lounge area as you relax and unwind. Cook up a storm in the kitchen, which has everything you need for rustling up a snack or meal for two, which can then be enjoyed at the dining table. The warm and inviting king-size bedroom is the perfect place to end your day as you drift off into a deep sleep. Step outside and soak up your tranquil surroundings while the dogs explore, as you enjoy some al fresco dining in the enclosed outdoor space.

Have a bite to eat in the local pub 2 miles away, before walking it off with a stroll around the coastal town of Bude (15 miles), which has a great beach, shops and eateries. Let the pups take the lead and join the South West Coast Path which boasts spectacular views. Explore the famous cobbled streets of the popular fishing village of Clovelly (15 miles) or the rugged coastline of Hartland (17 miles), which is a sight to behold.

Dairy Cottage is a really tiny cottage; the photos create an impression of spaciousness that doesn't exist in reality, though it is reasonably adequate for two adults and perhaps a small child. The interior design is interesting a mix of antiques and modern elements. It lacks a coffee table and a place to hang outdoor clothing; the latter is defRead moreinitely essentialafter all, where are wet jackets and coats supposed to be dried and stored? Where are you supposed to hang dog harnesses and coats? Over the dining chairs or outside in the rain? It is baffling that the owners didn't think of this. The kitchen is modern and well-equipped, only missing a second frying pan and lids for the pan and pots, though otherwise, all the essentials are there. Four-legged guests were also considered: towels, snacks, and waste bags were all provided. A major plus is the small wood-burning stovedon't let its size fool you; once lit, it heats the entire cottage very quickly. This is a huge advantage on rainy days when dampness seeps in through every crack; the stove drives out the moisture rapidly and creates a pleasant indoor climate. The carpets in the bedroom and living area are in urgent need of cleaning; the one in the living room, in particular, has a slight musty odor. The cottage was generally clean, but cobwebs and dust strands on the ceilings and walls created an impression of neglect. The bathroom was clean, but the cleaner really ought to clean the underside of the toilet lid as well. There are no insect screens on the windows (the pest control device isn't enough), which is an issue given that the cottage is situated amidst fields and lush vegetation, close to a pond. Our biggest issue was the cottage's location; although the estate where it is situated is lovely, however, the roads leading there are in a disastrously poor condition - they are practically nothing but potholes. Every drive along these roads was a challenge for the car and for the backs of the passengers. Hide

Lovely little cottage on a farm with it's own little courtyard. Be aware that it is 3 or 4 miles from the nearest facilities - pub, shop etc.

We arrived to a generous welcome pack for us and our dogs. We stayed in June when we had very hot weather. The owners went over and beyond to offer solutions for us and our dogs, very caring, understanding and pet friendly. We visited Instow Beach, Bude, Shebbear, Holsworthy & Bideford. Very comfortable, super clean with some delightful treats awaiting. Very secure courtyard yard area for even the smallest of escapee dogs - which is most reassuring. A wonderful field to especially for the dogs. This is my 4th visit to Bagbeare - I love it. Owners lovely, on site, but you wouldnt even know. Thoroughly recommend this cottage.

Our second visit to Dairy Cottage, it is a wonderful place to step away from everything and just relax. A few narrow roads but its Devon so it what was expected. The dog field made it easy to let the boys run and have some exercise even on our days of rest. Colin and Sara are wonderful hosts and helped make our stay relaxing and enjoyable. Lovely little cottage. Perfect for my husband and I and our large rescue dog. Lots of beautiful dog friendly places to visit nearby and quiet places too.
