Friends, families and four-pawed pals will adore this exquisite semi-detached cottage, secluded in North Devon’s deep green sanctuary. Explore the ancient market town of Holsworthy (6 miles), with its museum of rural life, independent shops, pubs and eateries, the Wednesday Pannier Market and St Peter’s Fair week in July, where the Pretty Maid is crowned. Dogs will love Dunsland (4 miles), a grand parkland overflowing with wildlife, gorgeous views and 900 years of history; an old house once stood here, before it was destroyed in a mysterious fire.

Inside, happy humans and hounds will find a light and airy home from home, with plenty of space for canine exuberance. After thrilling days of sea, sand and new discoveries, gather in the open-plan lounge/diner around the glowing wood burner with wine, local seafood and wagging tails; spill out through French doors onto the enclosed patio for al fresco evening banquets or early hot coffee and croissants. Soak tired limbs in the ground or first-floor showers before nightcaps and Devonshire dreams in the three beautiful bedrooms. The spacious ground-floor king-size has gorgeous garden views, as does the regal upstairs twin; the first-floor master king-size bedroom is elegant and tranquil, with wide windows, green views and a delightful en-suite. The land around the cottage is yours to explore, with a designated field for canine escapades.

Bask on fabulous fur-friendly beaches at Peppercombe (13.5 miles), quaint Clovelly and rocky Welcombe Mouth (15 miles), golden Bude (16 miles), Instow and Northam (17 miles), Widemouth Bay (18.5 miles), shingly but spectacular Shipload Bay (19 miles) and the vast dunelands of Braunton Burrows (30 miles). The Hartland Peninsula (15 miles) is a rugged world of cliffs, secret coves and awesome views – find the lighthouse, abbey and quay. Explore the independent shops, dog-friendly pubs, eateries and galleries of Bideford (13.5 miles) and Bude; Bideford’s Pannier Market has excellent art and craft shops.

The cottage is very rural and approached via a hugely pot holey series of roads. Our friend got a puncture on the way in and couldnt use her car the next day. It is a nice spacious cottage but the kitchen needed more saucepans and other items, it was very cold.. We chose it because we had 4 dogs but the week we went, it rained every day and the fRead moreilelds we were told we could use, were both at least 1 ft high with grass and after we complained they cut a lawnmower strip round the circumference but didnt pick up the grass so the dogs paws were clogged with grass. We spent half our visit cleaning the floors as we were told on arrival the house was to be left in the same condition we found it in. I have a large portfolio of rental properties and have never seen this requirement before. I also think that renters with dogs need to know the farm yard is home to ducks and cats. Hide

The only downside is the cottage is slightly remote down poor quality roadways. Apart from that it is superb as a dog friendly holiday cottage.
