Set within 3.5 acres of beautiful gardens and woodland, this cosy lodge in Mid Wales is a pup’s paradise. When you’re not sniffing for pheasants amongst the trees, tackle the mighty Sugar Loaf Mountain, just steps from the front door, before stopping for a bite to eat at the dog-friendly pub just half a mile from home. After adventure-filled days, return to this spacious retreat for a moment of relaxation in the sauna, an al fresco dinner on the terrace or a cosy evening curled up on the sofa with your tired pooch nearby.

Access to the cottage is up a gently sloped stepped pathway. It features hardwood floors, generous rooms and easy access to the shared gardens, this one-bedroom lodge is a fuss-free pad for romantic getaways with the dog. Offering plenty of space for entertaining, the kitchen/diner is fitted with everything you could need for preparing home-cooked meals for pet and owners. Meanwhile, the comfortable lounge is an inviting space for relaxing by both day and night, with its TV/DVD player and patio doors to the garden. When the day is done, retire to the tastefully finished king-size bedroom for the night. Outside, find plenty of space to roam, relax and get back to nature with your four-legged friend.

With no shortage of routes to discover, let your pooch lead the way as you follow one of the many trails and footpaths towards Sugar Loaf Mountain. One of the highest in the Black Mountains, this iconic peak is a haven for wildlife, a thrill for walkers and a playground for pups with its heather-clad slopes and enticing smells. Meanwhile, more leisurely strolls can be enjoyed along the banks of the River Usk. This gentle river winds its way to the Georgian town of Crickhowell (1.5 miles), home to an Iron Age castle, selection of eateries and spectacular views.

The location is brilliant, but the layout is poorly considered - the shower doesn't accommodate shorter individuals or have enough shelf space - neither does the sink; the dining table is too small and its circular shape is impractical; the layout of the kitchen is impractical as well with the dining table right next to the bedroom door and the disRead morehwasher stuck in a corner Hide

From arrival to departure it was a wonderful stay. The owner was on hand but never intrusive, gave a brief run down on arrival and then left us to make ourselves at home. The fresh milk and tea/coffee was very welcome on arrival. The lodge had everything required for a homely stay, was very clean and well equipped. The gardens are absolutely stunniRead moreng and the resident pigs and goats are entertaining. It's a perfect location for walkers, and not too far to Abergavenny or Crickhowell for supplies etc. All in all, a wonderful stay which I'm sure won't be our last! Hide

Our accommodation was lovely. Spotlessly clean. There was two pints of milk, tea, coffee, sugar, Welsh cakes and biscuits all provided. We took our dog and we felt there was plenty of space for him, not allowing dogs on the furniture was fine by us although some may find it prohibitive. Not a criticism. This cottage was first class for us as a couple. Warm and spacious. The directions on the web site took us to the cottage which is not an easy drive, as may be expected. The local pub was not serving food on the day we thought to go, and we drove to another.

This is a lovely cottage in a beautiful and tranquil location. Whilst we had rain most of the week, we still enjoyed our stay. It was nice to see the pigs and goats in the adjacent field. It was well equipped and the shower was amazing, so rejuvenating after our days out.

Spacious and very well equipped accommodation. Facilities, garden and views very good. Local pub very good. Lane from main road to property is long, twisty and undulating. There are a good number of passing points but you do need your wits about you. It is worth it though!

We enjoyed a lovely break at this excellent property. It was spacious and comfortable for myself and my wife. The mattress was soft for our liking but wasn't a real problem. The large bedroom had an adjoining bathroom with a very nice shower. The Dragon's Head pub is within walking distance but seems sporadically open. There are some nice local walRead moreks, especially along the river past a 12th-century chestnut tree. If you go there, avoid driving along Llangenny Lane as it's a bit narrow. Hide
