This unique apartment fits snugly within the cliffs, overlooking Freshwater Bay on the Isle of Wight. You will soon be gazing out at stunning panoramic views and glorious sunsets while enjoying a glass of wine. Perfect for the whole family, it sleeps up to six across three warm rooms, as well as welcoming up to two four-legged members. Old and young imaginations will be sparked by the historic features of this renovated fort, the whole family will soon be enlisted as marching soldiers on parade.

Tails will be wagging as you reach the apartment, accessed through the fort’s grounds and over a bridge across the moat. Quick march through the door into the tunnel from the fort’s parade square to reach your apartment via the stairs. The spacious characterful hallway is great for housing sandy shoes and outdoor wear and a welcoming open-plan kitchen/lounge/diner will become a social hub. Share stories over a delicious home-cooked meal or relax after a day on the beach and snuggle up on the sofa in front of the gas stove to watch a film as your pups laze at your feet. There will be no morning queues with an en-suite and warm bathroom with a shower over the bath, handy for washing those salty paws. Your four legged friends will enjoy the easy access from this apartment out on to the moat.

You will be hounded by the family to head to the picturesque Freshwater Bay (under half a mile away) for some stone skimming fun. Flanked by iconic white cliffs, sandy expanses are exposed at low tide for a game of catch, however May to September are to be avoided for hounds. The sandy shores of Shepherd’s Chine (7 miles), on Brighstone Bay are easily accessed down some steps and are one of many beaches on the island that welcome pups all year round. The Steam Railway (17 miles) allows dogs to board with an All-Day Rover ticket and enjoy chuffing through the countryside.

Very unique, beautiful apartment with interesting history, set in a glorious location. The beds were extremely comfortable with excellent sleep all round. We enjoyed the serenity and wildlife (robin, blackbird, wood pigeons, rock pipits, gulls and rabbits). A peaceful location with dramatic scenery and wildflowers.

This is a fabulous property, brilliantly converted and a privilege to stay in. As well as being comfortable, clean and well equipped, it's the respect for the history of the property that makes this truly special. Highly recommended. We salute you Simon!

Staying at Fort Redoubt was lovely. Providing a clean and comfortable base from which to explore the island. We were able to enjoy multiple beautiful walks both from the front door, and locally - obviously the autumn sunshine which arrived with us made the stay even more enjoyable, however we would have been cosy without the sun, and were disappoinRead moreted not to have been able to use the fire. Despite being on the western peninsula, the whole of the island was easily accessible within 40 minutes. Hide

Lovely position above the bay, adequate parking for 2 cars. Approach road very uneven. Comfortable beds with good linen, lots of storage in the apartment. Great appliances, lovely well equipped kitchen and great TV. You need to be very mobile as stairs were steep.

A fantastically quirky and comfortable apartment in a beautiful location. My cousin and her family stayed in Upper Caponier while we were in Lower and it worked extremely well for a family holiday in the heart of winter. Cozy Lower Caponier has three comfortable bedrooms (one with its own small shower room) and a spacious living area. There are stuRead morenning views across the white cliffs and great walks up Tennyson from the doorstep. Our tiny dog loved sniffing around the moat! Fabulous stay! Hide
