Get a new leash of life at this immaculate rural retreat offering peace and quiet, fresh air and a chance for you, your other half and your best four-legged friend to make magical memories. This one-bedroom property is part of a converted stone barn in Trentishoe, making the ideal bolthole for lovers of the great outdoors who want to explore Exmoor National Park and the rugged coastline of North Devon. The cottage boasts modern interiors finished to a high standard, while retaining period features that give character to this holiday home from home.

This middle property of three has a rustic stone facade, belying the modern interiors. Downstairs, there’s a generous living space, comprising an open-plan kitchen/lounge/diner with a sleek galley kitchen area, your very own table for two and cosy sofa seating with a Smart TV. Cottage-style, open-tread stairs lead up to the impressive, large double bedroom complete with an armchair under an attractive vaulted and beamed ceiling. There’s a private garden area to the front with a picnic table, plus a large shared garden with further picnic benches. An enclosed meadow 50 yards from the cottage is ideal for exercising faithful hounds.

The peaceful valley location of this cottage is ideal for exploring Exmoor and wider Devon. There are plenty of inspiring walks almost literally from your doorstep and the South West Coast Path is within 500 metres and is great for getting a different perspective. The dog will love it, anyway! You’ll go barking mad for the fact that well-behaved woofers can travel for free on the steam trains of the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway (3.5 miles). The National Trust’s scenic Heddon’s Mouth, where the River Heddon meets the sea is within 2 miles and lovely Woolacombe with its wide sandy bay and surfing opportunities is 15 miles.

We had an amazing stay at the Smithy; it couldnt have been more relaxing. The cottage, grounds and Trentishoe area are beautiful - we fell in love with it, particularly the gardens we had access to on the property! Stuart and Suzi were so friendly and welcoming and the property was unbelievably well equipped. The road to the cottage, and in generalRead more in that area, are narrow, windy and steep but are generally very quiet (and we visited over the bank holiday and half term). We cannot recommend this enough and Im sure we will be back in the future! Thank you so much, for such a lovely holiday. Hide

A lovely cottage with everything you could wish for. The hosts were very helpful and fresh flowers, Prosecco and scones, jam and clotted cream were a lovely touch on arrival. A lovely walk to Heddons Mouth and onto the North Devon coastal path can be reached from the cottage. Would definitely recommend and revisit
