Get away from it all in this rural retreat in the Welsh countryside. Sleeping four guests and two hounds, it’s the ideal base for couples and small families looking to switch off and relax. You’ll have an abundance of walks on your doorstep, including along the river and around the pretty grounds surrounding the cottage. The property is just 10 miles from the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park, and you’ll also be within touring distance of the sandy beaches of Cardigan Bay (just over 20 miles).

The characterful cottage oozes country-cottage charm, with exposed beams and stonework and a collection of traditional furniture and pretty soft furnishings. Slate flooring runs throughout the living areas, making it easy to deal with the odd muddy pawprint here and there. The lounge/kitchen/diner has full-length windows, flooding the space with natural light. Spend relaxing evenings cooking in the cute kitchen, sharing meals around the farmhouse-style table, or chilling out on the sofas by the wood burner. Upstairs, you’ll find the two charming bedrooms, both with en-suite facilities. There is an enclosed patio to the front of the property, with outdoor furniture and a BBQ. You and your waggy-tailed friends are also welcome to explore the 6.5-acre grounds.

The colourful, hilltop town of Llandeilo (11 miles) makes a lovely doggy day out. It has many independent, paw-friendly eateries, as well as beautiful parks for dog walks and picnics. After a bite to eat, take a stroll along the banks of the River Towy. Soak up the area’s history with a visit to Dolaucothi Gold Mines (3 miles), where hounds are welcome on the tours and along the walking trails through the estate. Brechfa Forest (13 miles) is a great choice on a hot day, with plenty of shady, waymarked tracks and picnic areas.

We had a lovely time at Threshing Barn and the owners were extremely friendly and welcoming. We had gone for a metal detecting weekend which was around 30 minutes drive from the cottage so this was a great base and allowed us to spend the weekend with friends partaking in our favourite hobby whilst having the comfort of a soft bed, shower and toileRead moret as opposed to the limited amenities of the campsite! I marked down slightly on cleanliness and comfort for 2 reasons. Firstly there were a few cobwebs in the ceiling, however as this is a former barn and in a very rural location this is to be expected. Second reason was that the windows do not open very far. We were lucky to have some amazing weather, but this did mean the house got a bit warm through the day, particularly upstairs. There was a fan available and we took this upstairs which provided some comfort but an open window would have provided a bit more of a comfortable night! Apart from those 2 very minor things, everything was perfect. As I said the owners were very friendly and we spent time talking to them both, the location is fantastic for evening strolls and walks with the dogs. There is an enclosed meadow with a stream that the boys loved. Finding the house was very easy and parking not a problem. Mobile signal is best with o2 apparently which is who we are with so we had no problems but apparently other networks may struggle. Wifi in the house is pretty good too. Thanks very much, we hope to visit again in the future!! Tom & Marie Hide
