A picture-perfect red brick cottage sits in a complex of properties on a working farm just outside the pretty village of Mattersey. Sleeping six people in three bedrooms and welcoming two faithful friends, this hideaway is ideal for a family who want to discover the serene beauty of South Yorkshire with their pups in tow. During the day, head off for walkies at the medieval ruins at Mattersey Priory; and in the evening, come home to fire up the BBQ for an al fresco dinner in the shared courtyard garden.
This cosy sanctuary is smart, stylish and thoughtfully adorned with welcoming rustic design touches. Step inside and you’ll find a light and bright open-plan living/kitchen/dining area with high, beamed ceilings. Make your way to the compact country-style kitchen area to whip up some dinner for the family and enjoy it at the dining table overlooking lovely farm views. Alternatively, head outside to fire up the charcoal BBQ and dine alfresco in the shared courtyard. After dinner, make a beeline for the shared games room for a game or two at the full-size snooker table, or snuggle up in front of your favourite TV show in the living area while your pups snooze contentedly at your feet. At the end of the day, retire to one of the comfortable bedrooms. The super-king-size bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with a shower over the bath and WC, while the double room and twin room share a family shower room with WC.
Take your pups for walkies through the charming market town of Retford (6.5 miles), where you’ll find plenty of dog-friendly cafes to take a break in. Alternatively, head to Clumber Park (11.5 miles) – a vast National Trust property with extensive gardens and woodlands. Dogs are welcome to join you in the park's designated areas.
