From a wild and windy tromp around Auchencairn Bay (2.5 miles), to a stroll around the elegant estate at Threave (10 miles), you won’t be short of places to explore with the pups.
A small flight of steps leads to the luxurious property. Kick off your muddy boots and hang up the dog leads in the spacious hallway, before entering the spectacular open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, with its floor-to-ceiling windows to really make the most of the exceptional sea views. After a long walk with the pups, unwind in the lounge area with a good book or listen to some music on the Sonos Bluetooth speaker whilst watching the waves rolling in. Rustle up a romantic meal for two in the stylish kitchen and on a warm evening throw open the French doors, so your four-pawed pals can potter in and out to the enclosed outdoor area. Afterwards, pour yourself a glass of wine and slip into the bubbling hot tub or luxuriate in the sauna.
Wildlife enthusiasts and birdwatchers will adore the 4-mile walk around the back of Auchencairn Bay. The route takes you out to a quiet peninsula, where you’ll discover a beautiful, secluded beach which is perfect for picnics. Further afield, Galloway Forest Park (just over 30 miles) is a good choice on a hot day, as it offers plenty of shade for your four-legged friends and the mountainous scenery is fabulous. It’s also a great place for stargazing and there’s an excellent range of outdoor activities, including mountain biking and salmon fishing.
