Enjoy a holiday with your loved one and your two favourite furry pals in this beautiful stone cottage. The property has splendid views over Ullswater and easy access to some of the Lake District’s finest fell walks. Pack a picnic and hike up Helvellyn, the third highest peak in England, or chill out on one of the steamers that gracefully cruise up and down the lake.
This fabulous 19th-century cottage is full of period features and luxurious touches to make your stay extra special, such as the gorgeous roll-top bath – perfect to sink into after a long walk with the hounds – and the comforting underfloor heating, which the woofers will love. Rustle up a tasty meal in the modern kitchen, whilst admiring the views over the water, before curling up on the sofa with the pups stretched out in front of the roaring wood burner. The shared garden is enclosed, so the waggy-tailed ones can safely potter around. Just remember to keep them on a lead outside the garden, due to the local wildlife.
As well as the area’s plentiful fell walks, there is also a more sedate route that circumnavigates the lake – The Ullswater Way (0.5 miles away). You can hop on and off the steamers to join various sections of the walk. One of the piers is located near Aira Force, a truly magnificent waterfall set amongst an arboretum. In spring, on the walk to the waterfall you can admire the daffodils that inspired Wordsworth’s most famous poem. Lowther Castle and Gardens (17 miles away) makes a great day out. You can explore the ruins with your four-legged pals, as well as wander around the gorgeous gardens, woodlands and orchards. Hairy hounds are even welcome in the cafe, providing they keep their paws off the cakes!
