Escape from it all in this fabulous stone cottage, with views over Ullswater (less than 0.5 miles away). The property sleeps two guests and two furry companions, meaning you can enjoy a romantic retreat with your loved one without having to exclude the woofers. There are some wonderful walks directly from your doorstep, such as the exhilarating climb up Sheffield Pike. You’re also just 17 miles from the dog-friendly town of Keswick, which has some fantastic eateries.

 

This luxurious property, which dates to the mid-1800s, has been lovingly restored to retain many of the period features. Cook up a storm in the kitchen, with its gorgeous AGA and Belfast sink, before snuggling up together on the sofa, with the hounds curled in front of the cosy wood burner. After a long walk, treat yourself to a soak in the roll-top bath before pouring a glass of wine and heading outside to admire the stunning views. 

 

For a truly unique view of Ullswater, jump aboard one of the steamers. Fido and Rover can join you for a small fee, and you can hop off at various points to walk along the Ullswater Way. One of the piers is next to Aira Force, one of the Lake District’s most visited waterfalls. Set amongst an arboretum, it’s a magical place and lovely and cool for you and the pups on a hot day. Step back in time on the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, located at the foot of Lake Windermere (25 miles away). The heritage line meanders through the beautiful Leven Valley and the hounds can join you for free.

A secluded, peaceful cottage, perfect to get away from it all. Beautiful surroundings, plentiful birdsong and numerous red squirrels visiting the feeders. Everything is provided in the cottage, including a comfortable bed. The picture postcard row of cottages are in an exceptional location with stunning views. Watching the red squirrels and birds was so special. The walks straight from the cottage door have breathtaking views too. We had a lovely few days with gorgeous weather. The cottage has everything you need and is cosy and warm.

Loved our stay at Red Squirrel Den. Great use of space inside, and didn't feel cramped at all for the two of us plus dog. A fantastic little cottage to use as a base to explore the area. Seeing the red squirrels every time we left the house was a real treat. Perfect retreat for some down time.

Lovely cosy cottage, compact, beautifully presented. Aga & log burner kept us toasty during cold winter week. What a beautiful little place, a perfect cottage if you want seclusion, peace & quiet, spectacular views, immersion in nature and things to do on your doorstep. The cottage itself is super-cute with everything you need, very tastefully furnished and a comfy bed, and the added bonus of red squirrels running around outside! We thought the cottage was wonderful and great for what we wanted. The road up to the cottage was tight and we were pleased not to meet anyone on the way up or down. But the views are out of this world. We took our own torch for night time wees with the dog. There's a shared garden space which is open so you can't let the dog out for the toilet aloRead morene. A beautifully restored, peaceful and cosy cottage, providing the perfect retreat for a weeks holiday in glorious surroundings and with stunning views. The cottage was comfortably furnished and well equipped. We appreciated the Aga in an unusually cold week for July, and the bed was extremely comfortable. The cottage was ideal for our purposes and the location was magical. The property has been renovated to a very high standard and storage space has been ingeniously incorporated into the design. It was a real treat to be able to distance ourselves from the "Madding Crowd" in the cottage's serene surroundings and yet have such easy access to UllswateRead morer. We are regular visitors to the Lakes and this is definitely one of the most attractive properties we have stayed at. We would love to return! Hide

The cottage is lovely and in a great location with everything needed. Seeing red squirrels up close is fantastic and being able to walk up Sheffield Pike straight from the cottage is a bonus. The view is great from outside the cottage and it is very peaceful. Would recommend going outside at night to look at the stars, they are amazingly bright as Read morethere is no light pollution. We loved the location and style of the Red Squirrel Den, but there are a few things that could be improved: - several lightbulbs were missing - no hairdryer - only huge logs and no kindling provided for fireplace - tired sofa could do with replacement - very low water pressure, we were unable to take a proper shower - we reached out to housekeepingRead more three times and never heard back. A fabulous, cozy cottage off the beaten track. The cottage is well named, as we saw red squirrels every day . The approach road has to be taken carefully, as it is prone to breakdown by rain etc Straightforward driving to Pooley Bridge, Rheged etc

Beautiful cottage, cosy, fabulous views.. had a lovely time here The track to the cottage is fine but if you aren't a confident driver as its a single track with no passing points you may find this off putting so be aware especially if you meet another car on way up or way down..

This is a very cosy, quickly little cottage and is well appointed. The location is lovely and the red squirrels playing in the garden together with the abundant bird life made our holiday special. Using the Aga to cook was great and I now want one at home. The bed linen was beautifully laundered and good quality. Overall we had a lovely stay.

Beautiful, cosy cottage with incredible views across Ullswater. 30 minute walk to Glenridding along the edge of the lake, and some fantastic walks toward Sheffield Pyke and Helvellyn right from the door step! We'll definitely be back.

Lovely cosy cottage in a special location. Perfect for a short break as a couple. Parking situation was a little precarious, we arrived late evening in an estate car and had a very narrow space remaining to turn and park on the track. But it was worth it when we woke up to spectacular lake views and red squirrels in the garden. Agree with comments Read morethat the stairs are precarious, definitely not a property for less mobile folks. Great location for exploring Ullswater and using the steamers. Hide

The cottage is superbly decorated and although smal is exvently furnished. The bath is a roll top and water was piping hot for the duration of our stay. Ignore the grumbles to do with bring too warm and parking. We had no problems with either. Excellent location and stunning views. Thank you for a brilliant holiday

The peace and quiet in this beautiful location; the sound of the beck, the sheRead moreep, the little songbirds and the incredible sight of red squirrels so close to us if we sat quietly was very hard to leave; and I loved my walk down the track to the lake every morning for an early swim. Thank you; we will most certainly be back to this magical place. We did have sun every single day!

For such a high price we were disappointed by too many things to want to return even though the location and views would be hard to beat. Far too small a cottage for an Aga - too hot. Needs a good clear - dusty everywhere. Paying just under 1000 for the week and there wasnt even a pint of milk in the fridge. We have never stayed anywhere that hasntRead more provided a welcome back of local produce. A real lack of the little extras. Shame as location great and the red squirrels were great to see. Hide
