Overlooking a beautiful loch just outside Castle Douglas, this elegant lodge is a lovely setting for nature lovers and those keen to sniff out new adventures. Your dog is welcome to stay with you provided it’s no bigger than a terrier and stays out of the bedrooms. You can all enjoy scenic walks around the parkland that surrounds the loch. And non-furry guests can look forward to a dreamy soak in the private hot tub on the patio after a day of exploring.
This is a reverse-level house, with the living area on the top floor and the bedrooms below, so offers something a little bit unique. There are two super-king-size bedrooms on the ground floor, both of which have a Smart TV/DVD and iPod dock to keep you entertained. Step out through the French doors on to the enclosed rear patio area to welcome the day – and your four-legged friend for morning walkies round the loch. Upstairs is a spacious open-plan living area boasting plenty of natural light, comfy leather sofas and an iPod dock for setting the mood as you chill out in the lounge or enjoy leisurely meals round the dining table. On warm, sunny days, take your morning coffee out on to the large balcony to drink in the wonderful sweeping views over Carlingwark Loch.
Further afield, meander to the delightful market town of Castle Douglas (0.5 miles), which has an array of speciality shops and pubs that give a warm welcome to dogs. Chase some sticks (or let your dog) in Galloway Forest Park (16 miles) and watch out for spectacular birds on the Red Kite Trail. Feel the sand beneath your feet (or paws!) on the beautiful rugged coastline of the Solway Firth at Rockcliffe (13 miles).
