Lying on the fringes of the delightful market town of Castle Douglas, this stylish lodge overlooking Carlingwark Loch is an attractive setting for active families or couples seeking long walks, water sports and good food. The property has a reverse-level layout designed to maximise the views, with the lounge on the top floor and the bedrooms below. As long as your dog is of the small variety and stays out of the bedrooms, it is welcome to join you on your break. Give Spot a new leash of life with energetic runs around the parkland that surrounds the loch.

On the upper floor, you’re met with a spacious open-plan living area with plenty of natural light coming in through the bi-fold doors. Sit out on the cushioned rattan furniture on the large balcony with a glass of wine or brunch after morning walkies as you take in the wonderful sweeping views over Carlingwark Loch and beyond. You can continue to admire the view from the comfy leather sofas in the lounge. Downstairs are the bedrooms, bathroom and utility room. Step out of the super king-size bedroom and out through the French doors straight into the private hot tub that awaits you on the enclosed patio area.

The property is half a mile from Castle Douglas. A designated food town, it has a local deli, butcher, dog-friendly cafes, chocolate producers and a small family brewery. At the Cream o’ Galloway Dairy’s visitor centre (14 miles) dogs can run free in the enclosed 7-acre woodland. And, of course, Galloway Forest Park (16 miles) is perfect for walkers, stick chasers and star gazers alike. Elsewhere, Galloway Activity Centre (10.5 miles) offers a wide range of activities on and off the water, from sailing and windsurfing to laser quest and archery.

This is a lovely property that is well worth the money. The location is perfect for anyone with a dog and the view from the balcony over the park and Loch is beautiful. Lochside apartment was fabulous, well equipped everything you could possibly need very clean and modern the hot tub was great to have and Castle Douglas itself was cute. Mr Pooks restaurant was fantastic and The Market Inn served very good food the chip shop was good too. Taking everything into account we and our friends had a very good break.

We enjoyed our stay. It is conveniently located for walking to shops, including restaurants, take-aways and supermarket. Being half way between the Galloway hills and the coast we had plenty of places to visit. The property was exceptionally clean and well equipped. The apartment has a beautiful view of the Loch and is ideally situated in the Castle Douglas town. The owners are extremely caring in providing a comfortable stay for their guests. We were delighted with a welcome pack of goodies, fresh flowers and a quiet location. We really enjoyed our holiday.
