Escape the city to breathe in the fresh sea air when you stay at this superb three-storey home sitting in a complex of properties facing the beach in the village of Portreath. Sleeping seven people over four bedrooms and welcoming two faithful friends, it’s the ideal hideaway for families or groups of friends who want to spend their days hiking the South West Coast Path or surfing at Portreath Beach, and their evenings taking in the spectacular views from the balcony or rubbing shoulders with the locals in the village’s dog-friendly pubs.
Before heading indoors, make your way to the garage, where you’ll find plenty of storage space for your wetsuits, surfboards and bikes. Step inside the house and you’ll immediately notice that it makes the very most of its spectacular sea views. Head to the chic kitchen on the first floor to cook up a storm for your loved ones, and then get everyone together in the dining room to eat. After dinner, slide open the balcony doors and step outside to enjoy a glass of something cool and crisp on the balcony. Check out the view from the small seating area to the front of the property, or head to the spacious lounge to sink onto a sofa and watch a movie while your pups snooze contentedly at your feet. When it’s time for bed, choose from two bedrooms on the ground floor and two on the second floor.
While pups are restricted at Portreath during the summer months, they’re welcome at the Deadman’s Cove (5 miles) and Upton Towans (10 miles) all year round. Alternatively, spend a lovely day in Boscawen Park (16 miles), where there is a dedicated dog exercise area by the riverside. Your pups are also welcome at Pendennis Castle (15.5 miles), one of Henry VIII’s coastal fortresses.
