Head out from the property on foot/paw to explore the beautiful surroundings, with walking trails leading directly from the house into Lake District National Park. Alternatively, hop in the car and journey just 10 miles to the coast, where you’ll find a great selection of dog-friendly beaches.
Enter the impressive property through the porch, where you can kick off your muddy dog-walking boots. Once inside, you’ll find a cosy snug area, complete with roaring wood burner, where you and the woofers can doze after a long walk. The house is perfect for entertaining, thanks to its celebration room where you can all sit at the grand dining table – there’s even a fully-equipped serving kitchen! The pantry also means you can store all your holiday essentials. Outside, there’s an enclosed garden with a grassed area down some steps for the dogs to explore, plus an outbuilding housing a handy washing machine and tumble dryer.
Take a trip to Wordsworth House (6 miles away), the birthplace of the romantic poet William Wordsworth. Potter around the beautiful garden with the dogs, or walk around Harris Park, whilst you take it in turns to browse around the house. On a hot day, the stunning walk through the tree-lined gorge to Scale Force waterfall is a must; the enchanted route is truly breathtaking. Park at Buttermere, just 2.5 miles away. If you fancy a day out at the beach, journey 13 miles to St Bees Beach. The 1-mile stretch of sand and pebbles is dog friendly all year and the setting is beautiful, below the dramatic headland of St Bees Head. The kids will also love exploring all the rock pools and searching for fossils.
