What could be finer for friends, families and four-legs than a seaside escape to the wild Northumbrian coast, staying at this exquisite gem set in the golden crown of Craster harbour? Famed as home of the kipper, Craster is a foodie’s paradise, with its two dog-friendly pubs, welcoming cafe and superb seafood restaurant. Dramatic Dunstanborough Castle (1.5 miles) is one of Britain’s most photographed ruins, accessible only on foot from Craster; a spooky ghost walk might lead you to the 16th-century knight, haunting the ruins. Enjoy a round on the windswept links golf course (4 miles) and run free on dog-friendly Craster Beach and Embleton Bay’s stretch of golden sands (4 miles). Snap up some superb local art from Craster’s renowned gallery.

Inside you’ll find a cosy and stylish interior, with a sleek design and loving touches. After wild Northumbrian adventures, gather in the open-plan living space for exquisite local seafood cooked in the bespoke kitchen. Drink in breathtaking ocean and harbour views through the large picture window and stay in for cosy nights with a glass of wine around the lounge’s wood burner. There’s also a utility room and WC on the ground floor. Upstairs, soak in a steaming shower or in the king-size bedroom’s en-suite copper bath, before settling down in one of the comfortable bedrooms; the single also has an additional trundle bed. Find more magnificent dog-friendly beaches at Longhoughton Steel, fantastic for rock pools and fishing, or sheltered Newton Haven, great for birdwatching, surfing and swimming (both 6 miles). Beadnall Bay (9.5 miles) is brilliant for bracing coastal walks, with its curving sands and grassy dunes, and Seahouses has two beautiful beaches. Take a boat trip to the fabulous Farne Islands to spot puffins, seals, porpoises, dolphins and whales. Alnmouth village and beach are also worth a visit for a spot of ball or stick chasing (9 miles).

Fantastic house. Beautifully decorated with fabulous view overlooking the harbour. Onsite parking right outside the door. Also takes a dog! Perfect holiday. Tom's Hideout is a real haven and we found our stay very peaceful and relaxing. The property is of a high standard and well appointed, in a great location with a good pub and regular bus service going north and south to take you to the start of your walk. Toms Hideout is a brilliant place to stay. Bedrooms very cosy and excellent showers. This cottage is in a wonderful location right on the Harbourside and very close to The Jolly Fisherman gastropub. It has clearly been very carefully renovated and shows a high degree of careful design and considerable expense. The welcome basket was generous and the overall cleanliness and presentation was outstanding. I really loved the cottage - the position is fabulous (facing straight on the harbour), though public, rightly drawing admiring glances from the many passers by! I hardly used the car, walking north and south along glorious coastline and being within easy reach of several great places to eat and drink. Beautiful cottage with parking in prime position. Excellent for walking along the coast with Dunstanburgh Castle more or less on your doorstep. Sun rise in the harbour was so pretty.

The cottage its contents and location are exceptional, having stayed in many all around the country this one as a whole takes some beating. We have already rebooked the cottage for next year and cant give a better recommendation than that . K M McGuinness

This old traditional fisherman hut is very modern inside but is not the biggest and has no garden apart from the car parking area. Excellent location by the harbour and very close to the local restaurant, cafes and the famous smokery. Great views towards the harbour and for people watching since walkers are passing by the windows all the time.

We had a lovely stay at Toms Hideout, a fantastic location with great views and lots of nice walks to do. A magnificent fire place that the dog loved laying in front of. The pub the jolly fisherman did great food and had a nice feel to it. We would recommend.

Had a fantastic stay at Tom's Hideout. The location couldn't be better and the house has been finished to a very high standard. The Jolly fisherman is well worth a visit plus the costal walks are outstanding.

A lovely, luxurious base for discovering Northumberland. Walks along the coast were fantastic and visits to Dunstanburgh, Alnwick, Lindisfarne and Warkworth Castles together with Cragside and Howick Hall Gardens were excellent. Beautiful spacious cottage in fantastic location right on Craster harbour. Well equipped and modern interior, lovely kitchen, spacious bedrooms and excellent shower room. Beds are comfy and everything you would expect was provided. Great to be able to park off the road right outside as parking in Craster can be difficult. Superb cottage, in superb location. KItchen very well appointed. Large dining area with table to easily seat 6. Large lounge area with lots of space and seating for 6. Our 2nd stay, love the location in village. Property has stylish appearance and bathrooms particularly nice. Whilst house looks lovely we found sofas uncomfy & evening lighting too low for books only screens. Kitchen could have more helpful basics; no dishwasher tablets & no draining facility for handwashing dishes & only one teatowel.. Plates and Read moredishes scratched. Dog friendly but you cant leave dogs unattended. Great pub nearby but no dogs allowed in restaurant. At this price could be better Hide
