This pretty cottage, situated in a peaceful hamlet location, is an ideal couple’s retreat – and your canine can accompany you too! With a comfortable and welcoming double bedroom and plenty of space to let sleeping dogs lie, it won’t be long until you’re feeling rested and ready to explore land and sea. Start the South West Coast Path at Morwenstow (3 miles) and stroll along as far as your two (or four) legs will take you, taking in the superb views for miles around. When you’re ready, return to your tranquil little bolthole, and sink into the sofas amongst the cottage’s superb original features.
The cottage, which has a spacious enclosed patio garden that is ideal for an alfresco bite to eat, has a quaint and cosy feel. Original features like exposed wooden beams, a stone fireplace and characterful uneven walls make it a wonderful place to relax in and transport you back in time. Get comfortable with a good book in front of the wood burner-effect electric fire, with your hound by your feet, or enjoy an evening tipple as the sun goes down on the patio.
If you don’t fancy cooking one night, pop to nearby village Kilkhampton (3.5 miles) to a choice of pubs, one of which welcomes furry friends. Seaside town Bude (9 miles) has plenty of restaurants too, but is also a great place to spend the day at the beach. If you’re feeling adventurous, take some surfing or body boarding lessons with Atlantic Pursuits at Widemouth Bay (12 miles), or just take a walk along the rugged coastline with the pup. And don’t forget the dramatic views at Tintagel Castle, 27 miles away.
