Full of charm and character, this cosy, beautiful and unique studio-style coastal cottage for two offers stunning views and is an ideal romantic getaway in the heart of the Northumberland countryside.

Set in the quiet and quaint hamlet of Bilton, the property benefits from a peaceful location while being only 1.5 miles from the coastal village of Alnmouth. There you’ll find a pleasant sandy beach for a stroll, as well as shops and several warm and welcoming dog-friendly pubs. Stylish and snug, the cottage is the perfect place for you to come and relax, while spending some quality time with your faithful four-pawed pal.

Inside, the cottage is bright and homely, with a nautical-style colour scheme and an open-plan layout. Thoughtful details and furnishings maximise the space: a clever triangular dining table for two where you can tuck into a romantic meal, plenty of shelving as well as a floor-to-ceiling wardrobe for storage, and a double bed that folds up to the wall. Whatever the size of your beloved hound, there’s more than enough room for their comfiest of cushions and a favourite blanket. While you’re enjoying the views from the large window over a glass of wine, or settling onto the sofa for a film, they’ll be curled up happily at your feet. Outside, dine alfresco in the patio garden while your dog basks in the sun, chewing on a toy and munching on a few treats from your pocket.

As well as the many beaches where your pup can chase balls and go for a doggy-paddle in the waves, when it comes to walkies follow the coastal path for the ruins of Warkworth Castle (4 miles) to the south, and Dunstanburgh Castle (9.5 miles) to the north. For something extra-special during your holiday, treat your top dog to a journey in style. Board The Aln Valley Railway (4 miles) for a romantic ride back in time to the days of steam.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

We stayed at The Summerhouse the last week in October and it had quite limited heat sources, advance warning to bring plenty of wood for the burner. That said you could keep the main living area pretty warm during the evening with the wood burner and a blanket. A compact property in a lovely location, ideal for one or two people (and dog). Great views and ideally placed for countryside and coast. Our only gripe was that the fold down bed was not particularly comfortable. Its otherwise a great little property.

Good location, nice view from window. Place could do with a good clean, lots of dust about. Was 1 mile to nearest pub and 3 miles to nearest store. We really struggled with the bed as it was so uncomfortable, and

Great little cottage ideal for 2 and a dog, lovely view out the back over the fields. Ideal location for visiting places around the area. Takes about half an hour to walk to town and the beach and 10 minutes by car. Parking in town can be hard but plenty of room on the beach front, 2 for all day. Alnmouth has great beaches and lovely walks.

Superb view, enhanced by the provision of binoculars. Wonderfully quiet and peaceful. So handy for Alnmouth railway station and the beautiful Northumberland coast.

View wonderful and location good, 25 min walk to beach and closer to railway station, direct trains to Newcastle, Durham and Edinburgh. Good tv and nice selection of DVDs. Internet fine. Cleaning could have been better, some mould/cobwebs. For us, bed was a bit small/uncomfortable, but perhaps to be expected with a fold down bed. The Summerhouse is a lovely small cottage, perfect for two people. The views are stunning and it is an easy 20 minute walk into Alnmouth for restaurants, shops etc. Perfect base for exploring Northumberland; most places are less than a half hour drive. Alternatively, there's loads of walking and lovely villages on walking routes on the doorstep.

View from window was magnificent. I did not consider the beach and shops were within walking distance as stated in the 'need to know' section. They were almost 2 miles away and we, in our late 70s, couldn't not walk there and back, which was disappointing.
