This detached cottage is perfect for a romantic getaway and for touring the glorious attractions of Somerset and is just a short stroll from the village pub and a farm shop with a cafe and bakery.

This rural bolthole for two makes for an ideal romantic retreat in the charming village of Priddy in the Mendip Hills. Situated in the highest village of these hills, you are well placed for a range of stunning walks in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, between Wells and Cheddar. Take one canine companion along with you to soak up your picturesque surroundings, setting out from the pleasant stone setting of this detached cottage. I

nside, this a spacious open-plan living area, subtly but colourfully decorated, where you can settle into a deep and comfy sofa with pup nestled by your side. Rustle up comfort foods in the contemporary kitchen area and dine at seating for two over pleasant garden views. A roomy double bedroom is ideal for a cosy night’s sleep after a long day, complete with a modern, spacious en-suite shower room.

Down a flight of stone steps at the front of the cottage is the perfect elevated spot to enjoy your morning coffee over idyllic village scenery, while pups can frolic untroubled on the nearby lawn. You are situated midway between Cheddar (6 miles) where you can explore its gorge (great for stretching canine legs) and the caves, and Wookey Hole and Wells (both under 5 miles) - with Wells being England's smallest city, featuring a magnificent cathedral and plenty of unique shops and markets. A 20-mile drive away is Bath, great for a spot of metropolitan shopping. For some beachside frolics for you and your canine companion, find Burnham-on-Sea and Weston-super-Mare, both under 19 miles.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

We really enjoyed our week at The Pen. It is a very peaceful location and the property is well equipped and very comfortable. It made the perfect base from which to explore Wells, Cheddar Gorge and the nature reserves on the Avalon Marshes.

Very generous Welcome pack, and owners very accommodating. The mobile phone signal is non-existent, and broadband is shared with owners. Washing facilities are only available within the owners property.

Lovely village location with friendly local pub and farm shop. Well equipped property for a long weekend. We visited Wells, Cheddar and Glastonbury tour, during a long weekend stay. Fantastic welcome hamper of local produce on arrival. Our dog loved the underfloor heating!

Beautifully situated cottage but the property wasnt too clean and was in need of some TLC. Several items, as already stated, need replacing. The welcome pack of cider, beer, eggs, bread and milk was much appreciated. The dining chairs , however, have seen better days , also the small coffee table.

We really enjoyed our short stay at 'The Pen.' Mike and Claire were very friendly and helpful. We appreciated the fresh bread, eggs, milk, cider and beer etc. on arrival (unexpected but a lovely welcoming touch). The pub is only a short walk away and the cottage is in an ideal location for many attractions.

The cottage is ideal for a few nights in the countryside. It is in a good location for exploring the area. There is a farm shop with good food over the road and a decent pub within walking distance. The air is fresh and it is really quiet around - apart from the dawn chorus!

Our stay at the Pen was a lovely mini break away. Mike was very helpful with talking through some local walks and asking if there was anything we needed. Pen is perfectly situated for enjoying the wonderful countryside. Theres a great local pub and farm shop.
