With forest walks and cycle trails from the door, this welcoming home in the heart of Grizedale Forest is a top choice for your outdoorsy holiday in the beautiful Lake District. Once a forestry worker’s cottage, the house is set up perfectly so you and your family, friends and canine companions can fully enjoy the spectacular countryside all around.

A useful entrance porch is ideal for shedding muddy boots and coats, and drying off soggy dogs too, before heading into the cosy lounge/diner to warm up in front of the electric fire. Anyone very cold or wet can hop straight in the downstairs shower, while the wetgear can go in the washing machine in the utility room next door. Enjoy a well-earned meal at the table, prepared in the compact but well-equipped adjacent kitchen, and linger over coffee while the children and dogs curl up in front of a film. On summer evenings, they’ll want to go outside and explore the large garden, which has plenty of space for a spontaneous football or cricket tournament as well as seating for those who prefer to spectate over a glass of wine.

The house is half a mile from the Grizedale Visitor Centre where you can pick up trail maps, information on the forest, and enjoy a tasty treat in the cafe. You can also hire mountain bikes, including kids bikes and trailers, or swing through the treetops on the GoApe high wire course. It’s 3 miles from the house to the charming Tudor village of Hawkshead, home to the Beatrix Potter museum, and about the same distance to Esthwaite Water for fishing. Lake Windermere is 6 miles away, with a ferry to take you across to the pretty village of the same name.

The kennels property is a secluded cottage in Grizedale forest. We went to the property last year and returned this year aswell. It is a warm cosy home, relaxing and clean and so peaceful and quiet with the surroundings of nature. No roads near by. We hope to return again next year

I would recommend this cottage. We have been visiting the Lakes for many years and the cottage is in a prime location for accessing many of the attractions the lakes has to offer. It is basically within Grizedale Forrest, but secluded so that you will not be disturbed by any other tourists. The cottage is large enough for a family of 5 (parents,2 tRead moreeenage boys, grandma and dog)-although be warned that the fridge is only big enough for 1 days provisions if you intend to cook (small under counter). Great location right in the middle of the forest. Plenty of space and comfy furnishings. Great for our dog to roam in the enclosed garden and lovely to see sheep from the house. Felt nicely secluded but a 30min drive from lots of activities. Would happily return.

We had a wonderful stay. It's such a great location and is a perfect base to explore the forest from. Our children loved listening out for the owls in the evenings and running around in the garden during the day. The cottage is well equipped and the beds are all very comfortable. It was generously warm despite some frosty mornings outside.

We had a lovely stay at this cottage. The location is amazing- listening to the owls at night and being a short walk to the Grizedale visitor centre was excellent. The welcome pack was appreciated. The beds were comfy. The welcome pact was very brief- would have been nice to have information on local walks etc. we would most definitely return.

We thought the house was great. Having a dog means older decor and equipment is fine. We dont like renting homes with brand new interiors as we constantly worry about the slightest mark.
