Dogs will also love exploring the Howardian Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (14 miles) and are welcome at attractions including the Ryedale Folk Museum (14.5 miles) and Flamingo Land (20 miles), as well as the gardens at Castle Howard (18 miles), Duncombe Park (6 miles) and Rievaulx Terrace (3.5 miles). There are several dog-friendly English Heritage and National Trust sites including Rievaulx Abbey (3 miles), Byland Abbey (9 miles), and Helmsley Castle (5 miles). You can also take dogs for a trip on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway steam trains which run from Pickering to Whitby.
