  • Set in a remote farm setting in Sutherland by the River Oykel
  • Great for families and couples looking for a peaceful retreat
  • A beautifully furnished annexe of the main lodge
Property code: 83246

A gorgeously styled annexe in a rural Highland location. Great for couples and families who are looking for a remote holiday home to escape the daily grind.

Soak up the serenity of Scotland from this inviting Highland cottage and take a pair of contented canines with you. Up to four guests are welcome to stay at the stylish, dog-friendly property, which is set on a farm overlooking the River Oykel. Stroll out together across the spectacular valley of Strath Oykel from this two-bedroom, annexe holiday home. Discover different walks beside Loch Shin, approximately 10 miles from your base; set tails wagging by strolling along beside the Kyle of Sutherland.

Let your bouncing bonzos bound into the hall at this traditional, Scottish retreat and follow them on through into the lounge/diner. Light the wood burner in here and settle your pals down, then switch on the Smart TV with Sky or watch a DVD. Wander on through into the kitchen to prepare their dinner and yours. Feed your furry friends in the kitchen then serve everyone else in the dining room. Find a handy washing machine in a cupboard, perfect for whizzing doggy towels through. The family bathroom is also at this level. As night falls, bid the hounds goodnight and make your way up to the king-size bedroom, with an en-suite shower room, or the twin on the first floor. Awake on sunny days to let the pups pad about the enclosed, courtyard garden as you have breakfast in the sunshine and plan the day’s exciting adventures. Find parking for two cars at the cottage too.

Grab the leads, lace up your boots and head out for a day of walking. Attempt a section of the 240-mile-long Cape Wrath Trail, which runs from Fort William to the most north-westerly point of mainland Britain, Cape Wrath, and can be picked up close by. Drive 13.5 miles to see the Falls of Shin and to walk through the woodland and see salmon leaping upstream.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Great location as a base for visiting the Northern Highlands. We stayed for a week and were able to combine visits to locations for walks in the hills and coast, together with tours around many of the classic areas. The cottage lived up to its description and is remote and peaceful and well described in the literature; Will was also very helpful. MyRead more tip if you dont want to spend too long in the kitchen is to stock up on ready meals (& petrol) at Morrisons in Alness en route. Hide

A beautiful cottage in a stunning location. Great care has been put into the furnishings and decor. We stayed at the end of September 2021 and felt privileged to be able to stand outside at night and clearly see the Milky Way, whilst listening to the stags roaring and the owls hooting. Fabulous cottage, nicely refurbished, and a generous welcome. In an isolated, peaceful location, yet close enough to the area's attractions and walking from the front door. Highly recommended.

Very comfortable cottage in a quiet location. Friendly, helpful hosts and plenty of entertainment provided by the peacocks, ducks and chickens. The track to the cottage was easily managed. An excellent base to visit the remote glens of the north and enjoy the majestic views of mountains, rivers and northern coastline.

Went for a week's holiday with just my wife and I. Lovely accommodation and the owners were very welcoming. Location is certainly remote with the last 1.5 miles being on a very bumpy road but drivable with most cars. Once having unloaded there is a parking area back on the main road that can be accessed with a short walk over a pedestrian bridge. Access to the cottage is along rough farm track with nasty potholes, over 1.5 miles long. Definitely not recommended for the average family car unless the state of suspension/tyres is not an issue. There is also a parking space, across the river, with access via suspension bridge, some 30 yards long. Fine in the good or mild weather but probably a Read morebit hair-raising in heavy rain. The cottage itself is quite small and self-contained. The master bedroom is of good size though the main bathroom is downstairs. TV only available via the internet. The kitchen is quite basic, more suitable for heating up ready-made food than serious cooking. There is a limited supply of cooking pots and pans. Will was a very friendly and helpful host. With its remote location and difficult access it is a perfect retreat if you are seeking peace and tranquillity, walks along the river or angling. There are plenty of farm animals and a couple of friendly dogs on the site too. Hide

We stayed here as a family of 4 with 2 dogs for a 2 week stay in July/August 2021. The cottage is beautifully finished with all the modern amenities you would ever need. Beautiful cottage in a stunning location. The cottage was spotlessly clean and decorated to a very high standard. It had everything we needed. It was an excellent base for touring the NC500.
