Relax in this charming beachside cottage, with the coast on your doorstep. It''s the perfect space to cosy up in the cold Scottish winter or bright Highland summer. Enjoy a 1.5-mile stretch of beach or head to Durness Golf Club.

Found at the extreme north of Scotland, close to the village of Durness, this fabulous little beachside cottage makes a glorious romantic retreat for two guests and a four-legged friend. Stepping out of the door in the morning you are greeted by 1.5 miles of immaculate white sand, which leads on to fantastic coastal walks in either direction – perfect for salty seadogs who want to splash in the surf. An absolutely sublime location.

Despite its compact size, the property has been finished to an exceptionally high standard, with a cosy open-plan living space offering stunning views across the bay from its window-facing dining table. Alternatively, you can move outside, taking advantage of the supplied BBQ and garden furniture to dine al fresco and enjoy the sunset together with your canine companion who will probably be waiting patiently to snag a sausage or two! Back indoors a king-sized bed awaits, with the sound of the waves lapping at the shore accompanying you as you drift off to sleep.

Although this is the perfect place for solitude and romance, the property is also set in a dramatic coastal landscape that is begging to be explored. You can sniff around the ruins of Balnakeil Church, which lies within 200m of your door; have a splash about at glorious Sango Bay, just 1 mile away; or take a longer 2-mile walk out to spectacular Smoo Cave, perhaps stopping off at one of the cafes or galleries you pass along the way. For more energetic excursions you are also within reach of some of northern Scotland's most spectacular mountain peaks, including Foinaven (which stands at 911m) and Ben Hope (at 927m), both of which lie within 30 miles of your cottage – ideal if your dog has great stamina.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Please note there is a refundable £150 security deposit for this property payable closer to the start of your holiday.

Balnakeil (half a mile) offers a chocolate shop and cafe to satisfy your sweet cravings, as well as a craft village and an art gallery which will delight culture vultures. Golf lovers will enjoy teeing off at Durness Golf Club, under a mile away. You can explore Durness, 1 mile away, and discover beautiful beaches and bays as well as lovely places to eat. Durness is also home to a small supermarket and a petrol station.

One place not to be missed is Sango Sands (1.5 miles), a picturesque beauty spot with clifftop vistas and turquoise seas. The North Coast 500, Scotland's equivalent of Route 66 which comprises 500 miles of coastal roads, also passes through Durness and is a great route if you want to explore more of the Highlands' stunning scenery.

Keen anglers should head to Loch Caladail (2 miles), a limestone loch famed for its trout fishing where both boat and bank fishing are available. Or simply strike out from the cottage on foot, to enjoy beautiful walks and breathtaking landscapes in all directions.

The Beach Bothy is a stylish property with high-quality materials used throughout. It's well equipped and very comfortable. The location is unique and utterly beautiful. The guest information folder isn't presented to the same high standard as everything else and could do with some attention, especially clarifying the wi-fi code. (There were variouRead mores different hand-written amendments which were hard to decipher!). The Durness Walking Network booklet is excellent and the Walk Highlands website is also very useful for walks in this area. The hot chocolate at Cocoa Mountain, only half a mile away, is every bit as delicious as claimed! For normal provisions, the Spar in Durness is very good for such a remote location. Hide

Beautiful warm Beach Bothy, amazing views and very comfortable bed. This bothy is situated in the lovely Balnakeil bay, you can freely walk in any direction, views are constantly changing and quote amazing. We are relatively fit retirees but surrounding walks are very manageable. We experienced quite a lot of snow and did have to clear the drive thRead moree night before leaving as it is on a slope but this added to the experience. The roads to the north are generally single track with ample passing places and despite the snow felt safe as very little traffic. We were there in February so unsure how busy they would be in summer. Very useful and friendly village shop just over a mile away, craft village closed in February. We flew to Inverness, picked up hire car and food there. Would definitely recommend if you like solitude, walking, wonderful countryside, beaches and a comfortable clean and cosy base. Hide
