This delightful retreat is nestled in a quiet location on the Devon and Cornwall border, a short drive away and you are at the beach, it’s a great base for a relaxed yet fun escape.

A home from home, perfect for a family holiday, this pretty stone cottage sleeps four and welcomes two dogs. Set in the grounds of the owner’s house, the property offers unrivalled peace and privacy surrounded by green fields and rolling countryside. Take your canine companion for a circular stroll around nearby Upper Tamar Lake, or join the South West Coast Path (7 miles), a National Trail which will definitely get tails wagging.

Enter the property and step into the spacious open-plan lounge/diner, a bright and welcoming room where the whole family can gather. Spend an evening together planning adventures for the next day around the dining room table, over a hearty meal prepared in the well-equipped kitchen, before lighting the wood burner over by the sofa. Cosy up with a film or good book and lay out your hound’s favourite bed or blanket for them to settle down on and bask in the warmth of the fire. Upstairs, both of the charming bedrooms have sloped high ceilings and lovely countryside views. After a comfortable night’s sleep, breakfast in the enclosed courtyard garden. Throw Fido a bone, and children eager to start the day can play in the on-site treehouse. Also, at Easter time there is the opportunity to help bottle feed the lambs!

To stock up on supplies and enjoy a meal out together, explore the villages of Bradworthy (2.5 miles) and Kilkhampton (3 miles). When it comes to walkies, take the lead and head for the Hartland Cornwall Heritage Coast. The popular seaside resort town of Bude is a 9-mile drive west, where Summerleaze Beach welcomes dogs on leads, and there are a range of attractions for the whole family including a sea pool, golf club, and heritage centre.

Kirsty and Rob were extremely good hosts and nothing was too much trouble. This is an excellent cottage for people with children who would love the small holding with lambs and ponies. Cottage was very comfortable and clean and very welcoming to dogs also. Would highly recommend.
