Set within the fringes of a traditional village, this detached Grade II listed cottage is the perfect bolt hole for couples simply wanting to relax and enjoy an area rich in history and natural beauty
This charming Grade II listed cottage in the Forest of Dean is a glorious bolthole for a quiet trip away from it all. It’s next to a trickling brook and surrounded by paths that are perfect for taking your terrier or border collie on beautiful long walks. Head deep into the Wye Valley to connect with nature before settling into a cosy night in with your beloved hound at your feet. There’s space for up to two adults and two waggy-tailed friends, so the accommodation will suit a couple who are keen to holiday alongside their pets.
The house is accessed via a wooden bridge that crosses over the water – if your dogs are the problem-solving type, they’ll love using this feature (or perhaps they’ll even opt for a paddle). There’s an enclosed garden for them to run around in when they're feeling energetic. The inside of the cottage feels cosy thanks to a sofa, rugs and cushions, plus a wood burner that Lola will love warming up beside. Traditional features such as a composite stable door add character, and the kitchen is decorated in a lovely countryside-inspired style.
This cottage is located in the village of Clearwell where you’ll find pooch-friendly pubs for relaxing with a pint of something tasty. There are fishing opportunities on-site in the surrounding area – don’t forget to take Lola’s dog jacket if it’s chilly and you plan to stay in the same spot for several hours. If you fancy a day out on the water, take Lola canoeing at nearby Symonds Yat (11 miles) – she won’t be able to paddle, but she’s sure to draw smiles from other folks on the river. If you’re holidaying as part of a larger group, consider making use of the neighbouring lodge too. This larger house, which sleeps up to four people and two dogs, is part of the same farm.
